THIS IS A SERIOUS QUESTION!
Why is it when we talk about WW1 and WW2 we act like we did all the work and that we had it so bad. I understand alot of people died defending our freedom, but we just seem like we think it was all US. It was not at all. WW1 the French, British and the German took the brunt of it all. And in WW2 the Ruusian had it bad. I have talked to history teachers, and they all acted like the Russians in WW2 we so so so stupid. The fact is the fought hard to push the German's back, and they had some highly skilled soldiers and Generals. As so did the German's. But why do we act like it was all America! We were just a very small part in WW1, and in WW2 we did alot, but in that war I give it to the Russian's. Now im a big history freak. Im a lifetime member of the history channel, I have 100's of books and DVD's about war's and such. So im not stupid in this area. I have always just wondered why we act like that.....What's your input. NO SIMPELTON'S ANSWER'S PLEASE!

"Russia would have lost the war without our help."......That is false! The battle of Stalingrad marked the end for Germany on the Eastern front. That was almost 22 months before D-Day! The Russians would have pushed the germans back to Poland, and kept them there, most historians agree on that. Don't answer the question if you don't know your facts!

We are Americans and we think we are better than everyone else and want to think that we control the world. But then again, people from every country feel like this to some extent. Maybe we are just more vocal about it.

In respect to this particular question, maybe a lot of Americans simply forgot about other countries. We seem to think that we are completely independent and do not need the rest of the world. That's why many Americans pay no mind to world issues...

On a side note highlighting American arrogance and ability to forget the immediate past, let me ask you this: Why was it okay for us to have nuclear weapons when we blew up Hiroshima yet we are freaking on Iran right now?? And we still have a nuclear arsenal at our fingertips...hmm...is that our ego again?

America just thinks they are the best and superior. Face it, America wants to wait till all the country's have it really bad, then we step in and try and help everyone to make it seem like were the good strong people (the Marshal plan I think). My take on history teachers, is that they were taught that America was the best at everything and we always had greater more important losses. When in fact after WW2 ended the Soviets, today Russia, lost over 11 million people, we didn't even come close. So yeah, America, we like to think were number one, but we have other countries to learn from. Look at our people, some are obese, some are starving, some still live in little dainty shakes, some people are dying from simple disease that can be cured pretty easily (the whole health care thing) But instead of helping our people we are paying hundreds of billions of dollars to a little country that should split into three countries, Iraq (the whole war started by Bush and his hidden agenda, but that's a different question) Sorry most Americans are closed minded Republicans.

The other day I was reading "Newsweek" magazine and came across some poll data I found rather hard to believe. It must be true given the source, right?

The same magazine that employs Michael (Qurans in the toilets at Gitmo) Isikoff. Here I promised myself this week I would be nice and I start off in this way.

The "Newsweek" poll alleges that 67 percent of Americans are unhappy with the direction the country is headed and 69 percent of the country is unhappy with the performance of the president. In essence 2/3s of the citizenry just ain't happy and want a change.

So being the knuckle dragger I am, I starting thinking, ''What we are so unhappy about?''
Is it that we have electricity and running water 24 hours a day, 7 days a week?
Is our unhappiness the result of having air conditioning in the summer and heating in the winter?
Could it be that 95.4 percent of these unhappy folks have a job?
Maybe it is the ability to walk into a grocery store at any time and see more food in moments than Darfur has seen in the last year?

Or could it be that when we wreck our car, emergency workers show up and provide services to help all involved.
Whether you are rich or poor they treat your wounds and even, if necessary, send a helicopter to take you to the hospital.
Perhaps you are one of the 70 percent of Americans who own a home, you may be upset with knowing that in the unfortunate case of having a fire, a group of trained firefighters will appear in moments and use top notch equipment to extinguish the flames thus saving you, your family and your belongings.

Or if, while at home watching one of your many flat screen TVs, a
burglar or prowler intrudes; an officer equipped with a gun and a bullet-proof vest will come to defend you and your family against attack or loss.
Maybe that is what has 67 percent of you folks unhappy.

Fact is, we are the largest group of ungrateful, spoiled brats the world has ever seen. No wonder the world loves the U.S. yet has a great disdain for its citizens. They see us for what we are.

The most blessed people in the world who do nothing but complain about what we don't have and what we hate about the country instead of thanking the good Lord that we live here.

Say what you want but I blame it on the media.
Everybody will watch a car crash with blood and guts.

How many will watch kids selling lemonade at the corner?

The media knows this and media outlets are for-profit corporations. They offer what sells.

Then start being grateful for all we have as a country.

I close with one of my favorite quotes from B.C. Forbes in 1953:

''What have Americans to be thankful for? More than any other people on the earth, we enjoy complete religious freedom, political freedom, social freedom. Our liberties are sacredly safeguarded by the Constitution of the United States, 'the most wonderful work ever struck off at a given time by the brain and purpose of man.' Yes, we Americans of today have been bequeathed a noble heritage. Let us pray that we may hand it down unsullied to our children and theirs.''

I suggest we sit back and count our blessings for all we have. If we don't, what we have will be taken away. Then we will have to explain to future generations why we squandered such blessing and abundance. If we are not careful this generation will be known as the ''greediest and most ungrateful generation.'' A far cry from the proud Americans of the ''greatest generation''.

If you know history you will also know that Churchill was begging us to enter the war in WWII because England was losing badly. Had we not entered when we did, all of Europe would be speaking German.

WWII wasn't just about Europe and Russia, we also had Japan to fight. Except for the Aussies, who helped there? We took 99% of the Pacific war on ourselves.

Russia was doing an excellent job, but if D-Day had not happened when it did, they wouldn't have been able to take much more.

During World War II, the British were hemmed in by the Germans on most fronts. Their industry was practically in shambles due to the blitz. What equipment they managed to get was from the United States through the "Lend Lease Act". Americans ran the gauntlet of German submarines to get this equipment to Britain. Without these supplies, Britain would probably have ended up surrendering. Another thing that saved Britain from sure defeat, was Adolph Hitler himself. The Germans had planned to invade Britain from across the English Channel. Hermann Goering swayed Hitler by stating that his Luftwaffe could break Britain through air power alone. Hitler bought into the story, and cancelled the invasion. Greed set in, and Hitler implemented "Operation Barbarossa", the invasion of the Soviet Union, thus saving Britain from invasion. It was the ultimate military blunder.

After the initial invasion of Russia, the tide was certainly going Nazis favor. Stalin had most of the Russian industry moved hundreds of miles on the other side of the Volga River, to protect it from the Germans. The Americans were sending Russia equipment to support them until they could regain a footing. Without American support, Russia most certainly could have fallen. After the Battle of Stalingrad, the Russian winter got the best of the German forces. The German offensive stalled, and Hitler refused to resupply the needy German troops. Russia counterattacked, pushing the Germans into full retreat.

America was responsible for the expulsion of German troops from North Africa. The British were beaten soundly by Erwin Rommel on many occasions. Only until America became involved, did the British regain their momentum against Rommel.

America was responsible for the expulsion of Germany from both France, Italy, Denmark, and Norway. The British assisted, but the bulk of the fighting and casualties were American.

British and Canadian forces took the beaches of Normandy that had the lightest resistance. The US took the three worst landing areas, including the high cliffs. The U.S. sustained the most casualties of any landing force because they met the most resistance.

The Russians entered Berlin before the U.S. because upper echelons in the US command allowed it to happen. Once the city was broken, other allied forces moved in and partitioned the city.

With the assistance of Australia and New Zealand, the US took out the Japanese in the Pacific. There were some British forces involved, but the US took the bulk of the fight to Japan. The atomic bomb drops on Hiroshima and Nagasaki sealed Japans fate.

America does not claim it did "all" the work in World War II, but without the US doing the bulk of the dirty work, Europe would be in German hands.

As for World War I, the European forces fought to a stalemate with German forces and ended up in stagnant trench warfare. Incompetent leadership of British, French, and Belgian forces sent hundreds of thousands to their deaths while attempting to take entrenched German positions. Repeated charges against the Germans resulted in horrific losses and allied forces having to return to their trenches defeated. The US Expeditionary forces under General Pershing, pushed the allied offensive forward, causing the German lines to break, thus ending the war.

So yes, America does get the bulk of the fighting, and has brought to an end, two world wars. And the loses to this country were horrific. To go to war and pay the price that was paid was not so we could have bragging rights or one-upmanship on Europe. We did a dirty job that needed to be done. U.S. industry, "yankee " ingenuity, great leadership, guts galore, and the bayonet made of genuine US steel did the job that needed to be done. The world can thank our World War I and World War II veterans for their sacrifices and bravery. This world is a better place because these men bravely did their duty. And the world should never forget it. But sadly, it seems they are.

Many humans translate BIG ego from the truth that the nation is a prime energy---definite...Then poke a laugh at for being dull, fats, dangerous wellbeing care lol---as though we do not care....It all truthfully depresses us....We truthfully rated VERY low at the happiness chart--to not point out the gasoline predicament, the housing foreclosure, the employment cuts. As on your preliminary query...I do not fear or suppose approximately it so much...You would as good ask someone. To all you others short of to opt for on that--being a primary cost can suck a*s truthfully when you consider that you are beneath scrutiny...it is relatively a energy that demands the correct chief. *edit* (hugs) I'm sorry for being an a*s [extra edit] You realize...I notion the identical factor approximately the empires...Some lasted for countless numbers of years. And the US simply began...what I intended by means of I do not care to fear, when you consider that what is going to be shall be and I'm only one man or woman who has to get my knowledge enamel pulled out the next day and I cannot sleep and I have a report back to do....Whoever turns into the following prime energy above America, will typically need to be, we would want them. By the way in which...is America relatively THE prime energy besides? What does it relatively imply? To others announcing we do not notice how so much the planet despises us...sure we do [replace] I suppose you requested an excessively well query. I got here again simply to replace heheh. It is principal to notice the predicament. I suppose humans desire their delight/religion regardless of the disorders, however there may be definately an attention. I do not suppose delight does not continually come from being convinced---I suppose humans are completely satisfied for the knowledge there may be, however commonly delight is all that's left--with out it, we would fall aside quicker. Having energy does have tons of possibility, however even in a democracy there are principal humans who will need to make a last resolution, which sucks for them lol, rationale I admit, it will probably certainly not be best or rapid. I consider this question matters the battle too---humans worry always for it. I query myself wherein is that this going now, and tons of humans surprise I'm definite. I'm only a consistent man or woman who can fear, however I do not have a rapid answer, and I do not relatively have well reply, sorry. Btw, I received my knowledge enamel out and I'm no longer as burdened out now...despite the fact that I'm squirming in agony. Take care

Without a doubt if Russia or England had fallen we would have been up the creek without a paddle. If either country fell, we probably would have fought the Germans pretty close, if not on our own soil. But on the flip side, Germany would not have gone down without us either.

The "ego" you see is when countries such as France criticize us when they should be a little more grateful their national language is not German.

This isn't going to be an ideal answer full of historical reference or fact, but I find that Americans (and I am one, so I can say this) are generally full of themselves regardless of situation. How many of the veterans who actually served in WWII think they did it all? Sure, their experiences were significant to the effort, and no one can argue that, but it seems to me that it's the later generations who are inflating the part we played. And you're right, they weren't there, so how would they know?

I find myself dismayed by the American ego almost on a daily basis for so many things that don't even pertain to war.

It has a lot to do with timing. When the US entered WW1 & WW2 the US allies were either in a stalemate or losing those wars so when the US entered them it was like the calvalry coming to the rescue and that US momentum eventually won both of those wars. And even though the US allies had a lot to do with winning both wars the US still looked like the major factor in winning them even though they had a lot of help (except in the Pacific agains Japan that was 100% US.
