the way i trained my dog was with a crate. she'd sleep in there and in the morning we'd take her out to use the restroom and if she didn't - we'd put her back in the crate and wait 20 minutes then try again. if she did go, we'd give her a treat. every time your puppy goes on the puppy pads give him a treat and get really excited about it. also, they have products at the store that are said to help the dog want to go there. i haven't tried them, so i don't know how well they work. also, try taking him to the pad frequently since he is a puppy and will probably have to go a lot. make sure you keep an eye on him and if you see him start sniffing take him to the pad. if you catch him in the middle of the act, pick him up and take him to the pad. if he goes on the pad, reward him. i hope this helps!

You are not alone! I have a 15 week old puppy that will take two steps off the potty pad and potty. I have no idea what to do. I got some of that spray to make him want to 'go.' He ate it. Yeah, LOVES the spray. Found out from a neighbor that her dog did the same thing. But my dog can get behind the couch and he goes there. I never see him potty, how can I train him?? Take a deep breath. Look at him a lot when he's asleep and cute.

8 month old puppies should be very well potty trained at this point. I'd get him outside more often than you are. Dogs really will try to do everything they can not to mess in the house. The reason why he's hiding the mess is because he wants privacy and would rather be away from you to do his business. So, get him outside where he can go in private and keep him locked in a laundry room (if you can) during the night or a large kennel to keep him from going in the house.

Yes...by this time they should be potty trained. In my opinion, the puppy pads don't work! They are teaching the dog to potty in the house. I have never used them, only when my friend got a puppy and used them, the dog always went in the house. I keep my dogs on a schedule...(6am potty, 6:30am Breakfast, 7am potty, 7:30am play, 7:55am potty, 8am kennel, 4pm potty, 4:30pm play, 5pm dinner, 5:30pm potty, 6pm walk/play, 7pm potty, 8pm potty, 8pm kennel for bed.) So they know when they will go out. If they have to go out I taught them how to ring the bell. I would say keep him in a kennel if you aren't already. He will not mess in his crate, but if he does get him checked out...He might have UTI(Urinary Tract Infection). You should keep him on a good schedule, and start from the beginning, start every 20 minutes then decrease to 30 minutes, then gradually to an hour. But always take him out after every meal!

Get a kennel and place him in it when you are not home or are sleeping. Take him outside immediately when you get home and every hour while you are awake and at home. I would recommend taking him to the same place every time and eventually he will associate the urine smell with his potty place. Also clean your carpets with a deep cleaning solution several times. Once will not do it alone. If there is any trace of urine smell the puppy may be tempted to go potty there again.

With every puppy crate training is very important.

-You want to get a proper fit crate. I would recommend one that is for all life stages. So you can buy just one crate. You want your pug to be able to turn around, sit, stand and lay down.

You do not want to let him have any food or water in the crate. Also do NOT put the puppy pads in there as he will get confused.

You may give him a toy such as a Kong or a Natural bone. Stay away from rawhides as they are unhealthy for dogs and puppies.

He should only be in her crate when your not home or can not watch her closely.

The crate is NEVER to be used to punishment. It should be a happy and safe place he wants to be in.

-Potty training can be difficult with small breeds. You want to buy puppy wee wee pads. Place one by his food and one by the door you want him to go out or to when he has to make potty. Each week move the wee wee pad by his food closer and closer to the door until he has just one pad. Then leave it there until he gets the hang of going outside.

You want to take him out as soon as you let him out of his crate or 15 mins after he eats or drinks.

Reward him when he goes outside or on his pads! Give him a treat and lots of loven.

NEVER shove his face in his mess if he has an accident. Also NO HITTING it will make him aggressive.

Just use a strong WRONG or BAD BOY! Then take him right outside.

-Now for feeding him you want to make sure he is on a healthy puppy food. Nothing that contains Corn, Wheat, Beef, By Products or Fillers. These ingredients are very unhealthy for the dogs and puppies and hard to digest.

Some examples of bad food are Iams, Purina, Science Diet, Diamond, Pedigree, Eukanuba and Alpo.

Good foods are Natures Recipe, Nutro Max, Lassie Natural Way and Royal Chain.

I personally recommend Natures Recipe as they have it for all life stages. Natures Recipe is all natural and is completely healthy and easy for your puppy to digest! It leads to a healthy body and shinny coat. Natures Recipe also cuts down on shedding, bad breath and the amount of stool they produce.

On the bag it will tell you how often and how much to feed him.

-NO HUMAN FOOD! Not a good thing to get him started on as it is unhealthy for dogs.

-Also wet food is ok as a treat but not daily. It sticks to the dogs teeth and leads to an unhealthy mouth.

- I would also recommend training classes. As any dog can make wonderful pets if they are trained well at the right age.

I'm going through same situation....a buddy that I work with trains dogs and he said to buy a travel cage/kennel and put her in there at night.....first thing in the morning take ger out to the same spot everyday. He said to take them out right after she eats...and if she pees and/or poops in the house take her to it...tell her NO! and take her right outside. Also he told me to take her out every 20-30 minutes ( I know it can be a pain). At ngiht time just lock her up in the tracel kennel and chances are she wont soil here sleeping area ( most dogs dont do that) He said with some dogs it can take up to a year to train. Trust me I know the feelings of dispair and anger you are probaly having....good luck

Well, you need to train your puppy with words, like when she pees outside say "Good boy/girl!" And when he pees inside, yell "OUTSIDE ONLY!" never ever hit your dog? OK? Best of luck!
