When I try to play a video on Windows Media Player it doesnt work. I've played videos there previously.
This is what I've figured out:
I've encountered error message C00D1199 while using Windows Media Player.
The file type is supported by the Player, but the file was compressed by using a codec that is not supported by the Player.

I was told to download a codec. What does that do and how do I use it? What do i do with it?

well in response to your questions as to what type of file it is...under file type in properties it says video clip. but the icon itself is mpeg for one of the videos and avi for the other one. i dont think the file type is the problem though because absolutely no videos are playing. it may be though since i dont know much about this stuff. your help is greatly appreciated.

a codec just allows you to correctly view the stream. Just follow the link or look up the codec that it says it needs.

It would help if you specified the file type. To find and download the codec what you need to do is go to www.google.com then search for

"[file type] codec download"

the [file type] being the type of file that you are trying to play. When you download it will almost always be a self installer that you just hit next and let it install the codec, then you will be set to view the video away.

I believe at least one other person has asked you "what is the file type?"

Forget the codec issue for a moment: if you right-click the file and select "Properties", the second line of info you should (the first being the file name) indicate what file type it is. Please update with that information; I and others will 'keep an eye' on the question.
