My dog digs holes constantly all over my yard.

This sounds simple but mainly - don't leave your dog outside alone for long periods of time.
I have 5 dogs. They rarely get bored outside - they are always playing, running, and having a good time. But, on occasion, if I leave them outside for a longer period of time and they get bored, someone will dig. I don't know what they hear, smell or why... but it's when they want to come in the house and I'm leaving them outside for a reason (cleaning, it's a nice day, I'm tired of them under foot etc). Some one digs and then they all want to check out the hole. Of course, one of them HAS to try and lay in the hole...
So in my opinion, keep them busy while they are outside and they won't dig. If they are outside alone too long, they get into all kinds of trouble (eating plants, digging, getting into my flower beds etc).

Good luck! What a time I've had with my two! But two weeks ago I put red pepper all over the spot where they started digging, I mean a ton of it, and they immediately stopped. They both got a snoot full and stopped right away!
I've also used hot papprika and that works well for a short time. I've tried all kinds of other stuff that was sold in pet stores, nothing worked - thank goodness for red peppers!

Make a place where he's allowed to dig. I built mine a sandbox, filled it with topsoil and rocks, and buried some bones and toys in it. Reward them when they dig there instead of the yard. They love it and the grass gets a break.

He's bored, lonely, and probably doesn't know how to handle himself out there!
Do you leave him outside while you're gone? I'd kennel him indoors instead. A kennel is a nice safe place for a dog - it simulates a den. My dog loves his kennel, and frequently goes in there on his own for naps. It also has the added benefit of keeping the dog out of trouble when you can't watch them.
I'd also get your dog more toys and find other ways to engage his brain. Take him for long walks to tire him out, play fetch, and teach him tricks. He'll be happier and you'll bond more :)

Use cayenne pepper in the holes....they won't go anywhere near it!
