Let me say this..........everything is a choice. Being gay or not being gay.
Some are born gay and some are not.
Those who are not can choose to be gay.
Those who are can chooes not to be gay.
Just as those who are not can choose to choose the opposite sex.....and vise versa.
I was born a sinner and choose to accept Jesus as my savior.
Will you if you haven't?

Interesting question. It's been asked many times, but still, interesting question.
I don't believe that people are homosexual entirely by choice. Often, it's just the way they are.
HOWEVER (and I'm only bringing this up because this is in the religion and spirituality section, and not the GLBT section) people do have a CHOICE as to what they're going to do with the way they were born.
For example, I was born to a family in which alcoholics and liars run rampant. I myself have a tendency towards addiction, and towards lying. Does that mean I have to give in? NO. I CHOOSE to not drink very often, and I CHOOSE to tell the truth.
In this way, a person can CHOOSE not to be actively homosexual.
I used to be bisexual. I still find women attractive (or at least, some women), but I CHOOSE to be straight (much to my husband's dismay).
I know some people are REALLY going to hate my opinion on this, but I'm speaking from experience. And I didn't even mention the Bible. Oh, oops. Well, I didn't quote from the Bible, at least.

Is being aroused by a member of the same sex what defines someone as being gay?
Everyone has a choice (free will) to "do" anything. A choice to/not to drink, a choice to/not to do drugs, a choice to/not to have sex outside of marriage, a choice to/not to steal your neighbor's trash can, etc.
In making the choice to "do", you BECOME. You become a "drinker", a "drug abuser", a "fornicator" or "adulterer", a "theif"
If you practice homosexual acts, you become a homosexual. You have the choice to be what you want by the choices you make to DO what you do.

I think that sexual orientation has two separate emotions.
Firstly, lust, the part that deals with all sexual desire, and the gender one is attracted to.
Secondly, love, the part that deals with the emotional connection between two or more people.
I also think that these two emotions are not fixated upon one gender, or exactly halfway between two genders, however, I believe that they are two independent continua (like a dimmer, not an on/off switch).
On top of this, I believe that no one can control their feelings, I believe that no one is born this way, and I also believe that these dual continua may change over time, completely independent of one another.
I also believe that there is nothing wrong with any combination of these two parts, nor should there be any discrimination against any person with a particular configuration of emotions.

I think that being gay is a choice for most people that have emotional problems. They find it difficult to engage with members of the opposite sex and feel that leading a life style that is considered perverse by most right thinking people will call attention to themselves and they will finally get the attention they so desperately need.
Just my opinion....something that the "gay" community will not tolerate (opinions that differ from their own).

I think you may be born with homosexual feelings, however, they must be controled and can be. Homosexuality is a disease of the mind that prevents a person from being attracted to the opposite sex. But like other disorders, they must be controlled.
The sexually addicted person who is addicted to pornography must still take up his cross daily and deny it.
Some people are born to be liars and thieves. But many deny the urges and live a moral life. So can homosexuals. Giving into sin is when the sin gets you. And just like any sin, you will always need more and more to get you by.

God temps us all in his own way and through each of our weaknesses.
Some are given the weakness of drugs and are tested to see if they can lead a life without them.
Others might be addicted to work, and they are being tested to see if they can juggle a family life with that, that more important reason for living over a job, for your family.
Others might be tempted by porn and the sight of the opposite sex. Can they live a life w/o bowing to such evil things.
Gay is the same way. Its tempting to see if you can stay away from the same sex instead of the opposite. This doesn't mean its in all people just like all people aren't workaholics nor into porn.
Life isn't fair so one cannot judge ones weakness against another, we all have one and we are all tested by it. Its up to the individual to realize their weakness and fight against it.
Make sense?

Nope. We're saying the person who he is gay chose to be submit to an inbred seed of homosexuality. He could have chosen to avoid committing the act all together..

It means that in a perversion of will, they choose to lust after the same sex, when they have a natural attraction to the opposite|
Look at what St. Paul says here:
"They certainly had knowledge of God, yet they did not glorify him as God and give him thanks; they stultified themselves through speculating to no purpose, and their senseless hearts were darkened. They claimed to be wise but turned into fools instead; they exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images representing mortal man, birds, beasts, and snakes. In consequence God delivered them up in lust to unclean practices; they engaged in the mutual degredation of their bodies, these men who exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served the creature rather than the creator - blessed be he forever, amen! God, therefore, delivered them up to disgraceful passions. Their women exchanged natural intercourse for unnatural, and the men gave up natural intercourse and burned with lust for one another. Men did shameful things with men, and thus recieved in their own persons the penalty for their perversity. (Rom. 1:25-28)|
We can see that such a thing comes from a perverse will and carries a hell of a penalty|

so if being gay isn't a choice then is being anti-gay not a choice? I mean how can you expect some to be tolerant of gay people when they are just born that way.........
