Gelatin is actually made from the bone marrow of pigs and cows, not their meat.

Food grade gelatin is commonly obtained from the bones of pigs or cows,when cooked for long periods,an albuminous extract is obtained that sets into a jelly like mass.In India where there is a religious taboo in certain sections for products from either of these animals ,a gelatin of vegetarian origin is marketed.

School girl is right about gelatin it's a protein which comes from beef and veal bones, cartilage, tendons and other tissues. Much of the commercial gelatin today is a by product of pig skin.
