I filed my federal return, but the website wouldn't let me file multiple state returns so I couldn't do it. Where can I file a state return for both California and Tennessee?

It isn't as easy and the Feds don't care. A lot depends where you claim residence, or maybe you claim residence in both states. Did you claim residence in one place and just work part time in another state. Did you move in the year. Did you work for the same company such as did you company send you to the other state to do work for some period of time.

This is actually an easy answer when all of the information is known. You might owe in both states, or maybe you only owe in one state. It all depends on several very simple questions.

You can check online for the forms, print them and then then fill them out and send them in that way. Look for the income tax department for each state.

Next year, you might want to consider TurboTax, which has a feature that lets you file for multiple states, although I think to send them online there is a fee.

Hope this helps!

If you log onto each state's home site there is a place that you can print the necessary forms. They should also give you the correct mailing address for payments and refunds...
