Cakes.
A Cake is a spongy, porous, baked item that is usually coated with a frosting after it is baked.

A Cookie is a solid, non-spongy, baked item that has no obvious "crust", and is usually baked together with all of its complete contents (nothing added to it after the baking process is complete).

A traditional brownie meets more of the requirements of a cake than a cookie.

I hope you win the bet.

brownies are like a cake because you can buy cake brownies at a store but you can't buy cookie brownies. besides you make brownies kinda like you make cakes you mix it, then you put it in a pan and cook it. but when you make cookies you cook them on a cookie sheet. also brownies and cakes start out as powder stuff that you add ingredients to and cookies start out as a type of dough.

They are cakes for sure, a slice like cake anyway. I gues it also depends who is cooking them, good cooks make them all soft and gooey like cakes and some people cook the death out of them and then I guess they are more cookie like lol. What does the winner of the bet win? A tray of cookies or cake ;)

Neither.

Brownies are in a separate category, called bars.

You both lose.

Brownies are Brownies. If hard pressed I say cake since they are cakier than they are cookier.

Cake. According to the dictionary, they are a bar of moist, usually chocolate, cake; sometimes with nuts.

It is interesting, though. You can get "fudge type" brownies, suggesting they are like candy; or "cake-like" brownies.

It is hard to classify them; isn't it?
