I'm having a problem with kidney stones. They keep coming back. How do I get rid of them? I've gone to the hospital several times with the pain but I hate to keep doing that. What is the best thing over the counter to take? I'm not even sure what causes them I just know the pain is worse than the labor of having my children.

I always have something to drink. I really don't drink anything but water. All day long!

I don't drink milk, eat very little cheese. Is there anything OTC that will help with the pain without having to go to the ER and get pumped up with narcotics. I have an 8 month old that I have to take care of and those shots put me out.

There are two types of kidney stones-uric acid and calcium. They can tell which you are having by analyzing the stone after you pass it.That is why they have you strain your urine. There is medicine for uric acid stones that pretty much take care of it but itis prescription. The calcium ones are controlled by diet.WAtch foods high in calcium such as milk, cheese, seafood, beer.

Once you have kidney stones, you always have the chance of passing them again. The best defense is to always stay well hydrated. Usually when you experience periods of dehydration, you tend to pass stones. The cranberry juice is fine, if you like it, but more for making your urine acidic to prevent bacterial infection as opposed to keeping you from passing stones. Water is your best bet. Avoid caffeine, because it is a diuretic, and causes dehydration. Tea also falls into that category.
If you know you are passing a stone and try to do so at home, most of your specialists will not tell you the best way to pass it is to drink a big margarita! Some of them will, but off the record! :) It causes you to urinate, and also numbs your senses. The problem with that is if it is too large to pass, it could get stuck in the ureter and require surgery. I suppose it will lead to surgery one way or the other, so you might as well have one last margarita before you decide! :) At any rate, if you have pain that doesn't pass, lasts longer than it typically does to pass a stone, be seen by your doctor or local ER. A lodge kidney stone can create serious problems if left long enough, even permanent damage to your kidney.
God bless!

Actually it depends on the kind of stone your having...the most common being caused from too calcium in your system. Try staying away from yogurt and cheeses and other dairy products and also do not take any calcium supplements or vitamins with a high calcium volume. but alot of water will keep your kidneys flushed. Cranberry juice is also a good drink. I know they are painful!!!! I had one too not too long ago. my doctor had me increase my calcium intake and then the stone happened!! Surprise! I've been lucky only to have one thus far, but I was told that water and cranberry juice help. So good luck. Do you happen to live in the South East US? Did you know it is known as the kidney stone belt of America??? Interesting huh..The highest concentration of kidney stone cases I believe coming from North and South Carolina.

You cannot get rid of kidney stones by yourself. You must see a urologist immediately. There is a procedure in which the stones are blasted and reduced to powder so that you will pass them when you urinate. Unfortunately kidney stones are common and very painful. Get to a doctor and have the problem taken care of once and for all. Drink a lot of water and ask your doctor if taking Urocit K will help you from forming new stones.

The best thing and about the only thing I can tell you is what my doctors have told me. Water, lots of it. Also cranberry juice and some have even said lemonade with the pulp. It all depends on what kind of stones you have. If you think you have them, try to catch some in a strainer and take to the doctor. They can do tests on the stones to see what kind they are. Also yahoo! has a kidneystone group which I'm a member of, which has a lot of info, and support for people with kidney stones. Hope this helps.

Gotta drink a lot. Different people have different causes. I figured out why I got them by myself. I had a lot of reflux at the time and I was eating Tums like mad. Those damned things contain calcium that is not easily absorbed by your body. The stinking calcium from the Tums caused the stinking kidney stones. When I stopped using the Tums - no more problem.

You have to do, immediately, three of the following four things:
1. drink water (sipping it) the whole day long. Place a jar and a glass near you.
2. drink lots of "green tea" during the day (it will help to dissolve the stones)
3. avoid tomatoes (the part that has the seeds)
4. go to a acupuncture doctor and ask him to help you (with the food part as well).
Some food, like tomatoes, have substances that combine with calcium in your system, making these insoluble stones.
Look up a "healthy site" in the Web about food that is really bad for your condition.
Hope to have helped.
Good luck!

Kidney stones may also be hazardous, my query is why did she no longer cross to the health center and feature them eliminated? I bought kidney stones final August, and had surgical procedure to have them eliminated. It may not be deadly, however I do not recognize how she would have stood them very lengthy, mine have been particularly painful and I used to be peeing blood...She will without doubt get well, however it takes a couple of days to believe again to typical and he or she might have got to put on a catheter for a couple of days as good. Best of success to her.
