Now they accusing Iran of suppling the Shite militias in Iraq with bombs.

Is this evidence that the Bush administration has no clue what they are talking about or is it evidence that they are lying through their teeth?

I can not say that I have read the report concerning Iran supplying arms to the Shite, but I can say that it would not suprise me if Iran was supply weapons to both.

Iran has never had a fondness towards Iraq. By supplying weapons to both sides would support a destabalization that would benefit Iran in several ways.

First it would inhibit the building of an organized national military in Iraq. This would keep the nation from becoming the military threat it was in the 80's.

The insurgent activity also disrupts oil production and transportation in the Iraq. This could eventually cause nations wishing a more stable source of oil to look towards Iran for future purchases.

It inhibits the ability of the US to use Iraq as a staging area for a possible invasion of Iran. A majority of the forces in Iran are used for local security and coulnd not be spared for a full on invasion. Also both faction would strike at US military targets when the opportunity allowed. This has the potential to disrupt supply lines leading into Iran.

This distablization also serves to the keep the US in Iraq. Iran may be gambling that the US would be so tied up in Iraq that it would be unwilling to establish new front in Iran. Having the US in Iraq also acts as a buffer against Israel. During the 1st Gulf War, Israel refrained from attacking Iraq despite continued attacks from SCUD missiles. This refrain was at US insistance. Having the US in Iraq lessens the likelyhood of Isreal making an air attack against Iranian nuclear facilities. The Isrealies had no problem flying over Saudi Arabia to attack the plant in Iraq. Overflying what is essentailly American airspace to make the attack would be too politically risky.

This is all just theroy however.

I saw on the news this evening that there SEEMS to be evidence that the weaponry/ammo the insurgents are using comes from Iran, but one of Iran's big wigs say the aren't. But somehow that stuff is getting into the hands of the insurgents. Might be through a third country.

The bush administration aren't the first people saying that Iran is supplying weapons to the shi-its, British special forces uncovered this a few months ago. The bush admin. is finally reporting it to the public.

If your going to listen to the CBS news, you can expect to think this way. Iran has been out to get te USA for decades. That's a fact, I remember only too well the hostage 's in Iran for over 1 year. It wasn't until Ronald Reagan got elected that they feared and let them go.

Iran wants war with the USA!
