I have been using benzoyl peroxide for a while now, if you want less dryness then use less benzoyl and apply more moisturizer, after a few weeks your skin will stop drying up so much and you can start using more.
Dont use more than half a finger worth of benzoyl in the beginning, then you can move up for a whole finger and then 2 fingers.
Be sure to apply moisturizer 10 to 15 mintues after applying benzoyl.
There is a very low occurence of allergy to benzoyl peroxide. If you experience swelling of the skin or severe crusting, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician.
have a nice day, your skin will clear up in no time, dont worry hun.

You should use a low concentration of benzoil peroxide (not the usual 10%). Try Neutrogena On-The-Spot. It has 2.5% Benzoyl peroxide. Also, lower the amount of times you use it per day. I only use it at night and in the day I wash with Neutrogena and moisturize. Red spots are normal for over usage of benzoyl peroxide so take it easy! Also, be aware that if it is irritating you skin, it may actually cause pimples! Try checking acne.org. They have a great daily regimen and lots more info. I swear by benzoyl peroxide so here's my regimen: A.M. - Wash with Neutrogena Clear Pore Cleanser/Mask (3.5% benzoyl peroxide) then moisturize with Oil of Olay Complete for combination/oily skin. P.M. - Wash with Cetaphil then apply Neutrogena On-The-Spot Treatment to affected areas. Simple! Hope this was helpful! Good luck!
P.S. If your irritation doesn't lessen or gets worse after you lower the dosage, see a dermatologist!

Did a dermatologist or a doctor tell you you were allergic? It may actually be just sensitive skin. Try cutting back on how many times a day you use it, or just use it every other day to begin with. The redness is probably just because your skin is irritated from being overly dry. (I have that problem if I use acne creams every day)
Make sure you're not putting lotions on your face right afterwards that contain fragrance or alcohol, since this can sting and make your skin even more dry and irritated.
Good luck!

Try salicylic acid, it works a whole lot better than benzoyl peroxide. It's in a lot of Neutrogena products.

Use a more intensive moisturizer, a facial cleanser contain 0.5% salicylic acid (clean & clear) and it takes about an hour or longer for benzoyl peroxide to work. If you are using salicylic acid, then don't apply benzoyl peroxide as it will cause unwanted dryness and redness when you use these products in combination. Just stick to one type of chemical treatment.

Benzoyl is actually extremely toxic, and a pretty well known carcinogen.
You actually shouldn't need any acne medicine if you take care of your skin correctly. The important thing is what type of SOAP you use in the shower. Most garbage soap you find in normal stores has Tallow, which is animal-fat, and clogs pores and CAUSES Acne. What you need is real soap, not detergent, almost all cheap store brand soaps aren't actually soap at all!
Switch to vegan-based Castile soaps, Dr. Bronners is fantastic, I recommend it. No residues, no skin clogging, and extremely good at clearing up skin troubles.
For immediate relief, get Desert Essence Thoroughly Clean Face Wash. Tea Tree Oil is fantastic for killing off Acne and preventing new acne growth. Consider it natures safe and non-toxic version of Benzoyl Peroxide.
I do not recommend Cetaphil and I am unsure why people seem to be pushing it lately. The ingredients in Cetaphil are a hodge-podge mix of cancer causing synthetics and skin irritants.

If you are using a mask that contains benzoyl peroxide just leave it on for 10 minutes and then rinse it off. Your skin could also just be sensitive to the new routine. Try spacing out your treatments. If you have been using it every day try using it only every 2-3 days.

i'm sorry you're allergic! when i was younger, i used to get really sensitive skin from using that. you should try using tea tree oil on your zits. it works a little better. to get rid of dry skin, i recommend using neutrogena oil-free combination skin face lotion. i had some dry skin on my face, and i tried almost everything, even $20 elizabeth arden lotion, but after using the neutrogena once or twice, it went away and hasn't come back!

Same Problem. All I can tell you is it takes 3-4 days to go away on it's own. Sorry, I haven't tried anything else yet.
Added:
I stayed away from it for 2 weeks and tried again. First time out, red mark comes back. Your allergic.
