My daschund is a 3 year old female. She has this soft toy bone with a squeaker in it that she has suddenly started carrying around. Its not the carrying around that concerns me. She licks it, carrys it, cuddles with it and snaps and at anyone that trys to take it away from her. This is the second time she has done this, the first time I just took the toy away from her and didnt allow her to have it until she got over it. But this time I am worried that she is not eating and I havent seen her go for any water either. Why is she doing this and what should I do?

Well the thing is she will eat if I hand feed her but she will not move away from these toy unless I move her. I have to make her go outside to use the bathroom because she wont leave the toy

She is not spayed. I want to breed her but cant find anyone with a male that wants to breed that isnt going to charge me a fortune for it.

I havent taken it away this time and wasnt sure if I should or not, because it seems to make her stressed it I even pick them up.

Could this be a stress thing? I just recently took my sisters dog because she has no where to keep it where she lives. My sisters dog stays outside all the time and is put in the sunroom at night to sleep. Could my dog be stressed by the fact that this dog is in her territory and that is why she is acting this way? My dog doesnt seem to like my sisters dog but she doesnt usually like anybody who doesnt live in the house with her unless I show her that person is ok.

It really sounds like she is going thru a false pregnancy. This usually occurs when she would have had puppies after her "heat" cycle. The vet told us this was normal. You should really think about having her spayed though, really high incidence of cancer in un-neutered dogs. I hope you can put up with her antics and not stress her more by taking her baby away.

Some dogs will become possesive over certain items. In your case the toy. I would suggest taking it away permanently and try giving her small rawhides to chew. This will give her something to keep her busy but not to possess over. As for not eating her food, when she gets hungry she will eat but if it's more than four days and if she is not eating then consult with your vet.

Is she spayed? Could she possibly be treating this as a surrogate puppy? This is quite odd..........if your dog is spayed, I'd call a vet or a pet behavioralist/trainer for some advice.
Best of luck.

The squeek toy has become her "baby". If she's not eating or drinking, better check with the vet.

if she isn't eating then i'd say there was a problem and you should probably talk to your vet about it.
