good luck with what that chick is telling you "if you don't get it offered refuse anything else."

If the job isn't there, it isn't there. It's very rare. Don't expect it.

Well the military in General has great benefits. Especially if you cannot find a great journalism or freelance job right out of college. THe military might be a good door opener becasue you are garanteed a photograhper job until you leave the service..and then it looks good on a resume. But be sure to only take that. Like some other people said. Different slots open up all the time, so unless you are in a hurry, make sure you get the job(mos) you want before signing anything. One good thing is people with college credit often go in at higher rank or get bonuses. So ask about that too!

Joining any branch of service is a great thing to do, though if you're going in after college, I'd seek an officer's commission (which means you most likely won't be a photographer, but you won't be treated like bottom of the barrel enlisted scum, either).

If you really want to be a photographer, tell your recruiter as much--and DON'T ACCEPT ANYTHING ELSE THE RECRUITER OFFERS. There may not be any photographer (journalism) slots available open the first day you go into the recruiter's office, but some may open up later on. Check with other services, too.

When you go to sign up for the Army after taking the ASVAB you will be directed to sit with someone who will have access to a computer. They will review your credentials than the computer will come up with all the jobs your qualify for that they want to fill for that month. If photographer is on that list you can get it, if not you will have to wait or sign up for something else.

The army can be a great career if you have a college education. Make sure you want to go in for the right reasons.

Hm, being in the army has its benefits, I think you can still be a photographer but you never know where they will station you so think about that first. If your okayw ith being moved around than go for it. The government helps pay for college!
