My boyfriend and i put in an application to adopt a 16 week male kitten on sunday. Im worried about how the two cats will interact with eachother. When the female resident cat smelled the male kittens' scent on my jacket she hissed. We had a previously bad experience when i moved in with my boyfriend and his 6 month old female cat. .

Feliway is a good product to use when there are tensions between cats and the diffuser is better than the spray. It is expensive though and flower essences can be just as effective and are not as pricey.

Go to www.spiritessence.com and read about the use of flower essences with cats (and other animals). Dr. Hovfe and her behaviorist partnet have a number of essences you might choose from. You can even call them in CO and they will call back to give you the best choice for your situation.

I have tried Feliway and it did nothing for me. I adopted a male cat after having a female cat for over 3 years. The male is 2 years old. If you go to Paws Chicago's website, they provide you with the intro process. That helped out a lot because my oldest cat has never been around another cat but for a few times in the hall and it was a bad experience. However, after slowly introducing the two cats, I have not had problems. Your older girl will hiss, it is only natural. Unless there is real injury, let them work it out. Most likely the kitten will bend to the older cat, which is how it should be, and they will get along fine. JUST DON'T RUSH THE PROCESS! It takes at least one week, but maybe two depending on how the older cat does. Be prepared to work at it. Good Luck!

Feliway (the spray) is a wonderful product and works very well. I tried the diffuser and did not like it. But if you introduce them right added with the Feliway it should work out well. I don't know about At Ease but I use Rescue Remedy and add it to their water and that works good too.
Make sure to keep them in separate rooms and when you do introduce them put one in a carrier that has been sprayed with the Feliway. Then switch the rooms that they are in so they can get used to each others smell and it will make it easier to adapt to each other.
Put them together in the same room (one in a carrier) several days in a row and when they are no longer hissing or they are acting interested in each other let them out to be together.
Make sure to share giving each the same amount of attention and play with them both at the same time. Give them lots of treats and they will soon be friends.

I've used Feliway when introducing cats to a resident cat. I used the Comfort Zone plug-in, and I do believe that it helped.

Even with the Feliway, you'll need to do the introduction slowly to have the best chances for them to get along well - this link explains the process: http://www.littlebigcat.com/index.php?action=library&act=show&item=cattocatintroductions

good luck!

I've used this product and from my personal experience I can tell you it does not work...at all. Only time will help them bond. Keeping locked up separately until you can monitor their behavior will help.
