I was on Effexor Xr for about 6mths but then got into a financial pickle and had to come off it (without dr supervision or advice) after about a month i noticed i lost about 5kg, people close to me reckon it was the anti-depressant that made me put on the weight and then when i weened off it the weight came off to. I am going to see my phychiatriast on Thursday. I reckon she will want to put me back on medication, but I am really not looking forward to the neausious feeling/headache for days or putting the weight back on and having to worry about taking meds. How can i explain that I feel I am coping WITHOUT the medication ok. I reckon she will tell me its only a matter of time before I start going backwards.

Let the doctor decide whether or not you're doing ok without the medicine. I was just reading yesterday that the antidepressant, Wellbutrin, does not cause weight gain--check it out--or ask the doctor about it when you go.

Don't forget to mention that Effexor gave you headaches and nauea. Also, what you did by stopping an antidepressant by yourself was very dangerous--there were people who are not with us any longer because of doing something like that.

Be careful.

They never seem to tell you how hard it is to get off Efexor, I was dizzy even when I was laying down! I went off it and within a few months I lost it again. I guess the thing is is that most of the time, the meds won't solve the problem. They can take the edge off to allow you to deal with things better and to try and keep you level.

I know that the side effects suck, but you have to look at the pros and cons. Another thing I found that helped was to stay on the lowest dosage you can, its a bit of a balancing act. I am on 50mg of Zoloft at the moment and I haven't put the weight back on that I gained on Efexor. Everyone reacts differently to different meds, its just a matter of finding the one that suits you best.

Hope that helps

Well if you can do without medication then let her know, casue that is great, but keep appointments to work on the depression in sessions instead of taking a medication for it. People always go backwards, then they go forward again, then they may go backwards again, and etc. That is now you get better, and so if she is using that line on you, then maybe you should be looking for a new doctor to see. Cause there are no magic pills or magic wand, an she should know that to get better, one usually wil go backwards, then forward, several times through out the treatment. It is normal to do that.

Just tell her you are doing okay. Honestly though, it is quite possible that you slip back if you do not address the underlying cause. I speak from experience. Smile though, it is possible to overcome once you address your stressors. Maybe she can change your medication to something a little less strong with fewer side affects. Not everyone gets the same results from these meds. Maybe this one is just not the one for you. There are many many anti-depressants. Talk to her and tell her the truth about the nausea, headache and weight gain issues. There are many others to try.

in case you look on the truthfully records from the medical trials you will locate that those factor outcomes in trouble-free terms impact a small share of the folk who take the drug. besides, it is not any longer medical doctors or scientists who arise with the checklist of factor outcomes. If one individual interior the trial comments that they had an factor consequence it is going on the checklist. it is not considerable that the guy in reality has no way of understanding what led to the symptom they think of they have, it is going on the checklist. That that's why it is extremely uncomplicated to ascertain issues like: factor consequence: Sleepiness, insomnia, Weight earnings, weight alleviation--for the comparable drug. in case you p.c. the info look up the probabilities of folk who mentioned the factor outcomes and not the leaflet that incorporates the medicine.

It's your body- you can choose to take drugs or not. She's not your keeper, she's just a doctor who will try to sell you pills.
I bet she gave you drugs without anyone checking your endocrine system, hormones, or diet, right?
If you feel good, get a book called "Potatoes Not Prozac" that will teach you how food and proper diet can keep you calm, happy and healthy.
"The same brain chemicals that are altered by antidepressant drugs are also affected by the foods we eat."
