My left side is swollen, but doesn't hurt. My right side though, is twice as big as the left, AND it hurts like hell. They gave me a painkiller with codon (condine?) in it which makes me really out of it, but it makes me sick to my stomach. The combonation of both brings me to my knees in pain. I've been icing since I got it done and the swelling hasn't gotten better. I went to school today and everyone told me to go home, I eventually did from the pain. Should I go to school tomorrow? Any other ideas or tips?

Instead of school, please go immediately back to the dentist--find out what is going on in your mouth. Even if you have to sit there till he/she takes a few minutes to see you. It's basically an emergency-it's been a week. I take it you followed all the instructions? I'm sorry you hurt so bad. I really do. Also, if you take the condeine with food, that should help your stomach not get so upset. If you have a container of salt, please think about-for tonight, rinsing (gently) your mouth with some tepid water and salt in a glass, swish around in your mouth, spit it out, and then hopefully that will help. For some reason, God made salt a healing thing in our mouths. I truly wish you the best. Take care.

Did the pain get better on the right and then start getting worse again? If so, then it is an infection/dry socket and you need further treatment. Try taking some gravol with the pain killer, or you could try using ibuprophen. As well as a pain killer it is an anti-inflammatory, so it will help some of the swelling, which is normal by the way. The swelling is the bodys way of getting the healing cells to the area. Have you been rinsing with salt water? This will help the area stay clear of food debris and help cut down on chance of infection.

Well it's only been 4 days and if your wisdom's were impacted and the surgeon had to break the tooth to get them out,you will probably have swelling a few more days.As for the pain if you can't get a hold of the dentist then maybe you should go to the ER and they can give you something stronger and if you have difficulty eating and drinking you could be dehydrated and the ER can give IV fluids and pain meds. Are you on antibiotics? The upset stomach try tums or Pep-to. Good luck dear.

First of all, codeine is known to make some people sick to their stomachs, so if it is bothering you, stop taking it. Second, call your oral surgeon, he or she will tell you what the best OTC medicine is to take, or they may prescribe another painkiller for you. I would recommend not going to school tomorrow, and if it's still that swollen, you may even want to go BACK to the oral surgeon so that he or she can check to make sure that everything is healing properly. The swelling should definitely have started going down by now, but it will probably be a few days until you're back in commission. Call your oral surgeon. He or she will be able to give you much better information than anyone on here.

Call the dentist who extracted the teeth. You might have what is called a "dry socket"
