What's the best kind of tea kettle to boil water in?

i thought a whistling one would be good, but what other kinds are neat and different?

A whistling tea kettle, is simply one that has a hole to let out steam. The whistling is a "by-product" of the steam hole. You don't want a tea kettle without the hole because it could explode (the cap will shoot off) if it boils rapidly while unattended.

Your other options are the old fashioned, electrical tea kettle that plugs into the wall. If anyone still sells those, they will be nostalgic and over-priced.

I personally like the electric kettles. I had a Braun and loved it. It was an earlier plain style, boiled quickly and had a 'cool-touch' exterior. When it died (after much use), I went with a fancier looking kind(different brand) and regret it for the fact that it just isn't as functional/practical. (The handle was rounded up over the top and too close to the spout, plus the SS exterior waaaaay too hot.) I do like the clear kettle, kind of cool, as well as some "functional" ;-) eurostyled kettles.

I use a metal tea pot because I'm cheap, but porcelain tea pots will never rust, never tarnish, and never alter the taste of water. Porcelain is a really high grade of clay, so expect to spent a little more on a true porcelain piece.

but, if you're cheap too, IKEA has teapots for $4.

i just boil water in a pot. my mom had 2-3 whistling ones, and still scorched the kettle. they don't need to be cool looking, just functional.

We drink tea throughout the day and we use an electric type. They work great and very quickly.

Place a ceramic tea pot in your microwave, grandma says it's the best, cause the pot breathes, whatever that means!!
