Make sure you're getting enough potassium (eat more bananas and/or kiwi fruit).
Make sure you're well hydrated.
If you use the muscles a lot, or are under a lot of stress tension, make sure you take time during the day to take a break--doesn't have to be long, just get up, do something else, walk around a bit. If you can't get up, do head rolls...ten slow in each direction, and take it easy when rolling your head backward. Try shoulder rolls too--ten kinda fast, ten slow.
Also, try this stretch:
place your right hand next to your left ear by reaching over your head. Drop (relax) your left shoulder as far as you can. Hold it like that for at least fifteen seconds and then do the same thing with the other side.
Good luck!

Molasses and bananas have magnesium (needed to regulate many things in the body) and potassium both of which you body is screaming for. (they are natural muscle relaxers, too much will give you the runs)
Massage Therapist - back, shoulders and neck are all involved and if you are like me other hands are needed to get it to manageable.
The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies can teach you about muscles, pain, referred pain and how to deal with it yourself.
