Its not so much oils to protect your hair... It sounds disgusting, but color sticks to your hair much better when it is dirty. Therefore, the vibracy of your color will do better while your hair hasn't been washed for a day or two. Anything incredibly oily will actually cause the color not to adhere properly to the hair follicles.
As for your color... Be sure to use a color oriented shampoo/conditioner. In doing so, your hair will not fade. If you are only getting one particular color of highlights, such as blonde or brown, you may want to experiment with John Freida or Pantene's line of color products. You may want to go a step higher, however, & try out Matrix or Big Sexy Hair products as well, especially if you have multi colors.
Also, to protect against heat damage, try a shine enhancer. Both of the previous mentioned big name hair company's make these. They protect your hair from a straightening iron's harsh heat... Instead of stripping your hair of it's natural oil, it uses the spritz to help straighten your hair & help seal in it's natural oil. This in turn makes your hair healthier & reduces frizz & that "burnt" look.
Also, shampooing your hair everyday is fine... Conditioning it everyday could over-do it however. Generally I go quite a few days when I wear my hair straight without washing because it is naturally curly, so when I do wash it I load it with conditioner & let it stand for a bit.
I hope that helped out a bit! Enjoy your new hairstyle as well~!

If you have extra oily hair, wash it the night before, but if you have dry hair, dont wash your hair for atleast 3 days. With fine hair, wash it 2 days before your appointment. But the important thing to remember is that do NOT wash your hair within 24 hrs of the appointment. The oil acts as protection, and without it, the chemicals will damage ur hair!

Neither. Every single one of my beauticians say to have the hair dirty. The oils your hair puts out allows the color to take and last longer. If your hair is clean, you have removed your natural oils which in my experience results in the highlights not taking as well or lasting as long. Been having my hair done for over 20 years and have been told every single time not to wash, no matter what is on it.

Don't wash your hair the day of the highlighting. I've washed my hair the day before and haven't had any problems. You don't want a really clean scalp when you dye your hair. You want some oils to protect it.

you need the sebum to act as a coating along your scalp to prevent chemical burns. "dirty" hair also helps us see where your hair lays so we can place the highlights in the best spot for your hairstyle. you don't want to have your hair full of product, because that just gets gross, but you're MUCH better off at least shampooing the night before, but definately not the day of.
also - you're not damaging your hair if you shampoo daily. it's more what shampoo you're using. drugstore shampoos wreck havock on your hair - one ingredient that acts as a filler is table salt! imagine what that does - strips out the good shine, etc.
when you get highlights done, if you continue to use cheap shampoo, eventually they're going to look brassy, dull, and just plain terrible. talk to your stylist about getting some great shampoo for your hair type.
hope this helps

As a stylist, I can tell you that it really doesn't matter. If your on medications of any kind, please wash your hair before hand. If it's super super oily, go ahead and wash before the appt. Regardless, it's going to be shampooed after highlighting. It's not going to affect the results of the highlighting either way!!
Hope this helps!!

for my area, my hair seems more effective powerful after I wash it at evening. I have very thick, quite wavy hair. If I do it interior the morning, it "explodes" and could change into truly frizzy. i detect that after I sleep in it, it variety of "calms down" somewhat previously the morning. also interior the morning, I straighten it and positioned somewhat gel in it.
