I should have added a bit more detail to the question. It wasn't my baby that this was happening to, it was an essay question for my A/P II class. It turns out it's a congential defect called tracheoesphageal fistula. What happen is, the trachea and the esohagus are connected, allowing food to enter the babies respiratory passages and not the digestive passages.
