I live in the state of california and i have no dependents. me and my wife file jointly. i am a home owner. i would appreciate any info any one may have on the matter that has possibly been through a similar situation.

Every year i get a federal tax refund but i'm raped by the state tax leaving me in the hole. how do fix this?

Is there anything that i can do in the present to reduce my debt to my current taxes? any recommendations you can offer?

You go to your employer, and tell them you need to have more tax withheld for the state.

Dude, I was single and living in Cali, and moved back up here to WA because of the state tax! My advice is for you to do the same and move to a state that doesn't have S.T.

Have one or more of your employers withhold additional state tax. Very simple!

increase your 'before tax' deductions and/or get some rental property and/or increase your 401k investments and/or start a home based business and deduct all your expenses and/or increase your charitable donations.
