We feed our boy Natures Best, which is a Science Diet brand. We fed him Nutro when he was a kitten up until 2 years, and switched to Nature's Best. His coat has gotten much shinier and silkier (he is a short haired cat), and he doesn't have any digestive problems. He is going to be 3 this year. He self feeds his dry food and we also give him those packs of wet food (with the chunks and sauce) in the mornings as well.

I agree with Texas as I also do a raw meat home-prepared diet for my cats though they also eat some high quality canned foods.

That is the only diet where you can truly control the quality of the ingredients in the food your cat eats. If you make the decision to go that route you will never have regrets about it and the benefits to your cat are immeasureable.

If you use a commercial food you need to use canned food if your cat is male because they need the moisture in the canned for their urinary tract health.

Look for a canned food that is high in quality protein and has little or no grain. Avoid foods with plant protein as their major source of protein - especially soy.

I feed my cats mostly canned Wellness cat food, with a little bit of dry as a snack. Since I switched a few years ago the cats shed less, their coats are incredibly soft and shiny, and they no longer have any hairballs. My fat cat slimmed down beautifully, now that he's satisfied with his food (the old high-carb dry food left him endlessly hungry and eating more & more). Even my cat with the sensitive stomach who vomited most of her life stopped vomiting completely. It's expensive, but worth the return it gives in good health.

There are many high quality foods for cats. Consider Wysong, Natural Balance or Innova.

Raw diets are also great for cats. I've had cats with chronic allergies as well as cats with severe diarrhea clear up quickly by putting them on a raw meat diet. Read up on it first (lots of info online) before trying it to ensure they get all the nutrients they need, but it's really easy to do.

Cats are true carnivores, intended to eat real meat, so whatever you feed them should contain high levels of meat protein and little or no grain.

I would strongly recommend Royal Canin, They have many different breed specific formula's, If your kitty has long hair they have a hairball formula, If it's got a sensitive stomach they have a formula for that.

Now if your cat is a typical Indoor cat than I would suggest Royal Canin Beauty and Fit
Here is the web site go and figure out what formula would be best suited for your furry friend

Nutro brand is THE best cat food. My cats' have the most beautiful coats and we always get questions on what we are feeding them. Take this survey to see witch one is the best for your cat. Hope this helps!

If there's any way you can get your cat to eat a raw diet, that would be best.

Or you can put him or her on a canned-only diet. A good quality canned food, of course.

It's well worth it!

I've posted a link to the best types you can buy.

Any regular dry cat food. Have lots of fresh water available. Can give canned food occasionally, but only as a treat.

I feed mine Purina One. She loves the taste and my vet said it is one of the healthiest cat foods out there.
