If you think stun guns, tasers and pepper spray can only be used as defensive weapons, you need to think again. I've been shocked and sprayed, several times in training. If I am on the street and you pull one of those on me, I am going to respond with deadly force!

That being said, a law prohibiting them does absolutely nothing to stop the criminal element from using them, as laws only affect law abiding citizens. In truth such laws don't do any good at all. Even the CDC who spent two years on a study trying to prove that gun control reduced crime couldn't come to that conclusion.
Most such laws are put in place so that law makers can say they did something. It doesn't matter that the laws are not effective and often cause the law abiding to be defenseless, all that matters to them is that they can tell them selves, and their constituents that they at least did something. It doesn't really matter to most of them that the unintended consequences created more helpless victims.
Do yourself a favor move away from that God forsaken place. Try a place that has far fewer people where you can be counted as a person and citizen rather than a number and a statistic.

I guess your first mistake is assuming that everyone who possessed a stun gun or taser would only use it for self defense. Vermont which has one of the lowest crime rates in the nation has some of the most favorable gun laws. You can wear a gun on your hip. NYC and DC have the strictest gun laws and because of this the highest crime rates. Why? Because the government can no more keep criminals from having guns than they can keep them from having illegal drugs. Now, if you were a criminal are you going to commit a crime in Vermont where a law abiding citizen is carrying a gun, or are you going to commit a crime in DC or NYC where the law abiding citizen is unarmed?
When Guns are outlawed, outlaws will still have guns.
Guns cause crime, the same way flies cause garbage.
The less you can do to protect yourself, the more you must depend on your government to do it for you, and the government doesn't do real good job!

Maybe their only justifiable use is self defense but sadly there are more than enough people around who would be more than willing to use them to commit crimes. The laws allow you to keep guns in your homes. Unless you are a member of the law enforcement community there is no need for you to be carrying a gun around.
