My spiritual heritage can be traced back to Christ without EVER encountering the Roman Catholic Church.
God's Church is traced through those peoples who were persecuted by the RCC throughout history for holding fast the doctrines of Christ.
The RCC began to abandon the doctrines of Christ and the Apostles in the early second century. Yet there have always been people who follow Christ and reject the corrupted teachings of the RCC.
The Church in Asia Minor defied the bishop of Rome and sent Polycarp to rebuke him. After him, Polycrates rebuked the Roman bishop for his continued deviation from Apostolic doctrine.
Victor, the bishop of Rome, thought he excommunicated from the Church of Christ those who did not follow in his corruptions, when in reality, he excommunicated himself and his followers from Christ and God.
Sylvester sold the Church at Rome into whoredom when he caused her to lie in the bed of the Roman Emperor under Constantine.
Contrary to Catholic belief and teaching, the truth of Christ still exists, still flourishes, and still lives by every Word of God. And it has ALWAYS been separate from the Catholic Church.

When I was a little boy, my parents took me to Catholic church. That's pretty normal for Mexicans. Heard alot about Mary. Heard alot about the Pope. Heard alot about saying particular prayers.... never heard about Jesus.
When I was about 7, we moved to a different community. No Spanish speaking Catholic churches there, so we just stopped attending. We were typical Catholics, not very devout, just Catholic 'cause that's what our grandparents were. But we stopped going. About 7 years later, at age 14, a young man from the Hammond Baptist Church came over to my cousin's house, looking for my cousin. He wasn't home, but I was there visiting my aunt. This boy told me about Jesus - and my eyes were opened. A perfect sacrifice salvation made a whole lot more sense than what I had gathered that salvation was from the Catholic church.
So, my "religious family tree" does in fact go back to Catholicism quite quickly - in my lifetime. But my "spiritual family tree" only goes back 32 years, to the age of 14.

NH, when I was a Christian, I was Orthodox. So I'll answer from that perspective:
Never.
EDIT: That is, Orthodox believe that they are the authentic continuation of the pre-schism Church. From their perspective, the Catholics left *them*, not vice-versa. And from a strictly traditional point of view, they are correct. They continue to hold the form of Christian faith articulated at the councils of the unidivided Church, while Rome has introduced innovations to that faith.
In other words, it's Orthodox all the way back to the beginning. You only have Catholics after 1054.

christianity is a very hot topic.. YOu really cant answer this from a christian point of view, because its one sided, you have to open yourself to all the answers.. not just what was forced to be taught.
christianity itself is a pagan concept. but then again I myself is pagan.
Christianity is a secret religon as well as its Sister Religon of the Cult of Mithras,
which involved in both religons.. is baptismal, communion (last supper), confession so many things the only thing that had it wrong against Christianity was The cult of Mithras accepted men only as Christianity accepted men, women and children.
Cult of Mithras and Christianity both were around Ancient Egypt. As some says Christianity is a starter of the Cult Mithras, hence it came first.

If you want to go back to the beginning of Christianity, it starts when Jesus told a random man to follow him and he did. This was the very first following of Christ / being Christlike, or, in other words, Christian.

my faith is not something that was 'passed down' to me like eye color...you can't bequeath your faith to anyone...but if you want to know what is the 'origin' of my faith, it was Christ's ministry...before there was a catholic church, there were Christians
