Dry food is a great convenience for cat owners and really not the best food for the cat.
To help you make a decision you should go to www.littlebigcat.com and read Dr. Jean Hovfe's articles titled "Why Cats Need Canned Food", "Does Dry Food Clean the Teeth?" and very importantly "Selecting a Good Commercial Pet Food".
Veterinarians have recommended and sold dry food for years and many are coming to have a different opinion now.
Cooked chicken is fine for your cat as a treat if he/she likes it. Raw chicken is better as taurine is destroyed by the cooking process and that is an essential amino acid for the cat. There is no calcium in the cooked chicken (cats should never have cooked chicken bones) and that can throw the phosphorus/calcium ratio out of balance.
A meal of chopped up chicken wings, a small amount of liver and some chicken heart and gizzard makes a completely balanced diet - lean muscle meat and some skin (for fat)and calcium in the bone, Vitamin A in the liver and extra taurine in the heart and gizzard. That is about as close as we can come to the natural diet of the cat (the mouse) as we can come. That meal will also clean the cat's teeth!

The sad truth is, vets are NOT the experts when it comes to cat nutrition. Odd but quite true. Most vets, that is.
The best diet for your cat is live mice and birds. Failing that, a raw meat diet consisting of meat, bones, organs and other supplements that you add and grind together. After that, a good quality canned food which contains MEAT and little or no grains or veggies. After that, low quality canned food, followed last AND least by dry food.
That's a quick summary. I'll post links below for your reading pleasure.
FYI, I switched my 2 girls to canned several months ago. Best thing I ever did. Dandruff - gone. Shedding - way way down. Poo - no more runny stool and less smell. Lowered water intake (because they're getting it in their food). Weight loss for my little fatty. More activity.
Ok one more thing - dry food does NOT clean teeth. If it did, my Poppy wouldn't already have tartar at 2 years old.

I have always used dry food that I sit out all day (my cats eat until they are full, they dont over do it). Make sure to get a good dry food, I reccomend buying a name brand like Science Diet or Nurto Max. Try to stay away from the food they sell in the grocery store, these tend not to be very good for your cat.

Well I personally think dry cat food is better but a little soft food here and there is good too. I have many cats and the price for the soft food becomes real expensive. I would give them access to dry food all day, but limit the soft food.

well dry cat foods that comes from the bags are always healthy for any cats to eat and also cans foods are also good for cats and kittens to eat too cause they are made with real ingredients and they do gave cats alot of vitamin A and D and keep them have healthy life and good strong bones and hearts . but i wouldnt gave so many tables cooking chickens to the cat cause they wouldnt able have any calcium and fibers and plus chickens will make the cat fatter or over weight . and also if you keep feeding fresh or uncooked chickens to youre cat then youre cat will stop eatting it own foods .

Cats should only be on regular dry food. Wet food only occasionally as a treat. Same with chicken or other "people" food - only occasionally. They will get fat and/or spoiled otherwise.

ckicken is good, just don't over do it. Dry food is healthier, it keeps the teeth clean, and a balanced diet.
