what do people going into the service if they have contacts? do they have to get glasses or can they keep their contacts? if they get to keep them, what do they do if they are in Iraq for example and get sand in them or they fall out?

have to wear glasses or the recommend the laser surgery after boot camp and "a" school or ait depending on the branch contacts arent permitted

I can only answer for the Marines. They will give you glasses until you're out of boot camp. Everyone has to have the same looking glasses (horn rimed). Contacts are not good for such a active life style as boot camp.

You would be issued eyeglasses during basic. Contacts are not authorized at that time or during combat training. Contacts are also a no no in the field or aboard ship because of possible hazards can cause the contacts to melt to your cornea. During your down time and during regular duties at post contacts are acceptable.

Contacts are not good in the field. Too dirty with smoke, fumes, cordite etc.. Also they are really really really bad in any situation where CN or CS Gas is used as they hold the gas against you eyes.

Glasses are better, LASIK is best.

you get to keep your contacts. it'll be up to you to maintain them. either that or get eye surgery. the military should be able to provide that for you too.

i think that they have to wear glasses that the military provides for them, im not 100% sure but i think i remember reading about that on goarmy.com or something like that.
