Welcome to the life of a jeep owner.
If you've had low mileage for a while and have been adding all kinds of accessories then there really isn't anything you can do. If this was an all of a sudden change then you might be able to do something about it. Catalytic converter, o2 sensor, or TPS could be going. It is a little strange though if it's something like that cause these problems usually happen after 75-100,000 miles or so. You might also need a little general maintenance done. Check your air filter and change your spark plugs, wires, distributor, and rotors.

Jeep Wrangler...Gas Mileage do these two belong in the same sentence? Driving style (lead foot or no) and City/ highway miles are the greatest factors on fuel economy, barring the fact that someone altered the drive train, tires, or engine. Yes these cars get poor gas mileage. It is not about the petrol though, if you own one and keep it for longer than a year. Tire pressure can cause bad economy, as well as other performance / maintenance problems. If you are unaware of your jeep's mechanical condition, you will soon have bigger problems. These cars are finicky and require a loving individual who will be in tune with the needs of the jeep. Are you one of these? It could be that you just don't love your jeep enough.

P.S. Sorry dude, there are some 4.0 v8's out there but any 4.0 you find in a jeep will be that inline 6. If you don't love jeeps then you just won't understand

that idiot that said the 4.0 is a v8 is ******* stupid. the 4.0 in a 2005 jeep wrangler is a 242 straight 6. they don't put v8's in jeep wranglers since the 70's and maybe early 80's. so, don't listen to that moron. but your gas mileage is consistant if you have a lift and big tires. sometimes if you jeep is running hotter than usally your miles per gallon could go down by a little. I have a 2000 tj with 4" lift and 33" tires and I get about 15 mpg!

That's what I get. If you do a lot of in town driving then your MPG will suck(I live 1.5 miles from my work place). When I travel further I'll get 14 MPG.

Also, do you live in a cold weather area? It could take your Jeep longer to warm up. If you get in and drive without letting your 4.0 warm up, your MPG will suffer.

What happens is that the jets run bigger(open) when the Jeep is cold. Then as it warms up they reduce their flow.

Get a K&N air filter(40 bucks) and stay away from plat plugs. Unless the car comes with them it runs like poop. Wranglers run best on autolites.

As for Mr Trendz....you're a moron! A 4.0 is a I-6 not V8!

Were you getting better mileage at one time and the performance is dropping? Are you driving off road mostly or cityhighway? Overdue for service? Engine light on?
This vehicle's EPA estimate for mileage is only 14 to 18 mpg.

firstly the 4.0 engine is a v8 and not a six banger, secondly you have not mentioned what modifications that you may have made. larger tires, spring over and or the addition of a winch or other after market item. 12 mpg is about average with a few tricks you can probably get about 18. By the way the 12 miles per gallon is that off road or hwy.
