I think someone should learn that "are" is not the same as "our."

I would love to see our troops come home. But, I don't think that's an option at the moment. The place is a mess over there and if we leave now, just imagine what type of hell we will be put through again by terrorist actions.

Yes, they should be brought home.

The trouble within the country is coming from insurgents (mostly from other countries) engaging the troops as they try to restore order to the country. I believe the main reason the insurgents are there is because they have their own agenda with the US and are taking the opportunity play out their grievances. Take out the troops and there will be no-one to fight them.

Remember, the region has been wracked with violence for decades and there has almost always been some foreign power within their region to fight against. The Russian no sooner pulled troops out after decades of trying to take over the region when the US and others stepped in to take their place (remember the Vietnam war? Vietnam had not long won a prolonged war with France over its' independence when no sooner had they looked to settle down and enjoy life but the US started in on them. We know the outcome of that. -- any similarities?)

This continued military conflict has built up generations of potential combatants with first-hand observation that there is someone in town that shouldn't be there, someone who is trying to tell them what to do. Of course they wont like it. Why should they. And so they fight. Without an enemy, there will only be frustration (there is that now, anyway) and without someone to fight and to fight back they will soon stop looking for someone to fight or start fighting each other (the different insurgent groups). That wouldn't bother me in the slightest. If war is their game, then let them play it with each other.

The task set out in the beginning has been achieved. A dictator has been removed and any and all threats from the arena have been removed. The only perceived threat is the ongoing fighting but that has become self-perpetuating.

An election has been held and that government is set to take over and control matters. If they are not allowed to run their own country after the election then the view will be that the government they put into power is only a puppet to those who walked in and now refuse to leave. Those in power must not only do something for their countrymen but must be seen to be doing it. As it is now, it looks like the US and others are running the country by proxy.

We need to step back, now. After the initial turmoil when the troops are taken out, the area will quieten and sanity will prevail.

"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." (Edmund Burke)

This is a true statement. It definitely applied to the region of the Middle East but that something has been done. As stated earlier, a callous, evil dictator has been removed and a good government elected by the people of the county.

Now its time to step back lest the good men become the evil.

I wish we could bring the troops home, so that my boyfriend wouldn't have to get deployed after his basic training. But it probably isn't a good idea to do that right now.
