I live in the country and have lots of crime problems with Travellors (Gypsies) but the police wont do a thing. If I phone the police ask my address and ask is that close to the Gypsy site and when I say yes they claim to have no resources to deal with it.

Here is the other side of the coin. I do not know about Britain, but this is American Law. Now, most of these are not enforceable today due to status laws but that only occurred very recently.

Oh, it is NOT the same in the USA as it was described in this question in Britain and I know that in other parts of Britain it is not this way.

I shall provide a link to the full article afterwards:

-----------------------

Following is a selection of such laws (from Hancock, 1987), some of which remain in effect; the last such law in New Jersey was only repealed in 1998 (the article is from 2004 and states that not all of the laws have been repealed):

gypsies ... for each county ... shall be jointly and severally liable with his or her associates [to a fine of] two thousand dollars (State Code of Mississippi, Section 27-17-191).

The governing body may make, amend, repeal and enforce ordinances to license and regulate ... gypsies (New Jersey Statutes, 40:52-1).

After the passage of this act, it shall be unlawful for any . . . gypsies . . . to . . . settle within the limits of any county of this state [without having first obtained a yearly license to do so] (Pennsylvania Statutes, Section 11810).

Any person may demand of any . . . gypsies that they shall produce or show their license issued within such county, and if they shall refuse to do so ... he shall seize all the property in the possession of such [Gypsies] (Pennsylvania Statutes, Section 11803).

Gypsies [in the State of Maryland] must pay jurisdictions a license fee of $1000 before settling or doing business. When any gypsy is arrested, all his property and all the property of members of any group with which he may be traveling, can be confiscated and sold to pay any fine a court may levy against the arrested gypsy. Sheriffs are paid a $10 bounty for any gypsy they arrest who pays the $1000 fee after he is arrested (Logan, 1976).

Texas law refers to “Prostitutes, Gypsies and vagabonds” in the same breath, and charges the Romany people $500 to live there (Bernardo, 1981:108).

(there are many more like this... this is pretty common)

----------------------

etc. etc.

How many laws like that are passed about Whites?

It is sad that they are not enforcing the Law in Britain and I do not know why they would not. I am assuming that you live in a very crime-ridden area and, as in the States, the police do not want to go into it.

I could tell you a story of a Rromani woman in the States who was beaten savagely and managed to escape and crawl into a ditch. A cop went by and asked why she had been beaten. She said it was because she was a Gypsy. He said "well, you are" and walked away to leave her in the ditch.

Travellers have certain rights within the law of this country which is often exploited to the full by them. If you are reporting a specific crime I am sure the local police would not just ignore your report. If that is the case then collect the evidence and present it to your local MP or Council. If you are just protesting that the travellers are unofficially camped near your home, you sincerely have my sympathy and I do believe you and your neighbours present your case to the local council and demand action. Good luck.

This is just the way the police are, they are very selective in who they help and how they react to complaints.

I worked as a chief executive, Myself and my family were stalked for 2 years in the most horrible way. We were constantly told we did not have enough evidence to prosecute, we eventually received death threats in the post. The were given to the police and they were 'lost'

By the time the death threats came we were asking why we could not use the emails and txt messages - they were over 3 months old and not admissible.

After 2 years of this I telephoned our stalker and told her to back off - no threats or swearing.

I was arrested and questioned as the stalker had said I had been offensive and threatening - even though i gave the police a recording of the call unoffensive call before I was arrested. they still went through the process of questioning me.

I really sympathize with your problem. But I think, like us, you don't tick the right boxes for performance management.

We do enforce the law equally. Do you have evidence to prove it was the travellers? We all know they commit crimes, but unless we have proof there's not much we can do! And we don't "claim" to have no resources - we have to prioritise our work because we're an emergency service and have to deal with emergencies first, everything else comes next. Someone will deal with your complaint, when someone is available, and not before. Why should you be seen before someone who's lying in a pool of blood having been beaten up. We don't tell you how to carry out your line of work, don't tell us how to do ours.

For some reason the government have always protected Gipseys and most forces have a Gipsey liason officer.I know when I was in the police a few years ago they even paid for people to live on static sites who reported to the home office on real or imagined abuses by the police.Nobody seemed to be intrested on them abusing society.

You aren't very specific about the crimes but if they were serious enough they would have to at least visit you and take a statement before dismissing it! If it's just them being there, litter and noise, and them being bad neighbours then you should be speaking to someone else, Enviroment Department I think. They are the ones who would have to get the court order on a nuisance complaint. The Police really do have better things to do than warn people who already know exactly what their doing! If you only suspect it is them commiting the crimes and no evidence that it is then who are they going to proscecute!

The police can't really do anything about "travellers". They can arrive and chase them away but then what? They will move on to another area and become a problem to the next police agency.

It's a neverending circle. The more the police get involved the more taxpayers money is used to chase them on when the cops could be working on something more important.

It depends what you are talking about. Have you had something stolen or are you just annoyed about litter? And how do you know who is responsible?

You need to be a bit more specific. Dont expect everyone to just turn around and condemn the Police and/or Travellers ( gypsies, whatever ) just because you've 'had problems'!

Its sad that the criminals have more rights than the home owner, in the UK. I live in the USA I could see the same thing happening here. Your goverment took away the rights to own a fire arm and keep in to your home. I couldn't belive it when it became a crime to defend your home and limb. People have been charge with a crime for doing so. Close to the truth questioner?
