Unless I'm really getting to know them... I never voted for Bush and I might get tired of "having to explain myself" all the time/dealing with people prejudging me. This was advice from an aqcuaintance.

Girl, I traveled to Europe for four months back in Aug till mid Dec.
I told people I was from America. I didnt get hassled all that much. If anything, people were surprised at how smart I was for an "American". As long as you arent arrogant and expect everyone to speak english to you, that shouldnt be a problem. But if you dont feel comfortable and you hear people talking bad about americans, then just say you are canadian to not get into anything comfrontational. I learned that politics is something best left unmentioned. There are so many other things to be talking about when you are traveling that politics shouldnt be mentioned. Have a great time and be yourself. I noticed that once they saw me as a friendly person, they opened up and actually asked questions about America. Believe it or not, a lot of tthem are interested in knowing how it is to live in America.
Thats what I got from the four months of backpacking there. And that wasnt my first time in Europe.

I have traveled a ton and lived in 3 foreign countries. I used to say I was Canadian(when Reagan was in power) but since I feel it's good that people know that we all didn't vote Bush in and we have a brain in our heads, I am honest about who I am. I am not ashamed of the people of our country, only the people who are (hopefully temporarily) in charge.
Travel and be a good liberal ambassador for the U.S :)

I have heard that Canadian's get treated better than American's while traveling because American's come off arrogant and rude. I have heard people putting the Canadian flag symbol on whatever they're wearing and carrying so they will get treated better. If I were you I would do the same. As long as you don't act arrogant or rude, so you don't give Canadian's a bad name as well. ;) Happy traveling

No, I don't think you need to do that. Don't forget the governments of Australia and the UK are supporting Bush in Iraq. And yet when I ask Australians if they think their country should be in Iraq, they always say no. It's another example of a democratic government going against the will of the people.

i recommend u to go to london because i go to secondary school there. There are so many schools there and they are all friendly. I probably think that edinburgh is cheap, i dont know but maybe london is cheap. they are also friendly but i think that some people might be jealous of where u are from or might make fun of your accent, but i wouldnt! if you go to london everyone would be fascinated by you and english accents are way better than scottish! hope this helped you and if it didnt you can check this website:)

No. Why would you feel the need to say you are Canadian?

Don't believe the Liberal media when they say that Americans are hated overseas.

Other countries LOVE US dollars.

Be honest. Most Australians can tell the difference in accents.
