Help! I am an African-American woman with HORRIBLe stretch marks on my buttocks and hips. If I wear a bikini, I usually apply body make-up to help cover the scars as I am VERY self-conscious of them. The only problem: when I go into the water, no more coverage! Also, my bedroom body image is a little bruised... I tried cocoa butter and, more recently, Ambi, a skin lightener. However, the Ambi simply suceeded in lightening the stretch marks, which, of coarse, now look even worse next to my dark skin! Does anyone know of a product of service that could actually help to improve the appearance of stretch marks on darker skin?

It has nothing to do with the color of your skin. There isn't anything you can use to get rid of stretch marks, unfortunately. If you gained a lot of weight quickly---like pregnancy--that stretches out the skin and the stretch marks don't go away. Even if you lose all the weight.

Only plastic/cosmetic surgery can get rid of stretch marks.

Actually alot of women of all races have stretch marks
Especially us moms. But try and look at it a different way which is what I learned to do. If your a mother and that's how you got them It was worth it because you brought a beautiful baby in this world Believe me I have them really bad and I dont show my stomach but that's okay.

Cocoa butter is used for both preventing stretch marks and treating them. Cocoa butter should be applied to the skin soon after a warm water bath, when the pores are open and the cocoa butter is easily absorbed. Shea butter may also be used instead of cocoa butter. There is a product called Soft-E lotion that is usually used for the repair of stretch marks related to pregnancy. Breaking open vitamin E capsules and applying the liquid directly to the marks also works well. You also might try Scargo lotion.

keep your skin very very moisturized...at walmart ther is an 'in shower' body lotion by olay for 4 bucks....and also buy a stretchmark cream or vaseline with cocoa butter that evens skin tone and texture(big, brown, pump bottle) at walmart for 5 bucks...apply up to 4 times a day...the key is to really keep your skin soft. also try an expensive anti-wrinkle cream to fill out the lines to take the indentions of the stretchmarks away... good luck:)

Simple - Don't keep fluctuating your weight, the skin's stretched out b/c you gain weight and lose weight, gain weight and lose weight. Try to eat healthy and exercise and keep your weight stable instead of gaining and losing. As far as any products go, I don't think there's anything out yet to make the stretch marks disappear.

Strech marks never go away, but you can apply different lotions or get laser treatment to darken them to your skin tone.
