You know arguing about religion or politics is a neverending discussion.

So which are some fun phrases to change the subject of the conversation without sounding rude or offensive, especially to touchy religious believers??

"Did you catch the rain at the Superbowl?"

"Church always used to have the best pot-luck suppers. What was your favorite dish there? I used to like that bean dish with the onion rings on top."

"That speaking in tongues thing is amazing. My uncle speaks Latvian, and I swear each time I hear him, I think he's got the Holy Spirit. Have you ever been to Europe?"

"Sunday's a really tough day for me. It's the only day I have to visit my invalid aunt in the nursing home. It means so much to her. Did you ever go out with a nurse? There's this hot, friendly nurse who works there...."

"I'm sorry... I seem to have a slight case of dysentery. Excuse me, I've gotta go.... BAD!"

"Have I told you about my friend who tried to crucify himself as a sign of devotion to God? Man was that bloody! Thank goodness I'm type 'O.' By the way, what type blood do you have? Ever give blood?"

"So speaking of sacrifices, did you see the Sadam hanging?"

i don't want to fit the stereotype, but maybe if you listen through the whole conversation, the next time it is brought up, you can say that it's something you are not ready to talk about again.

i have many non-believer friends who have felt that way. if they are touchy, then they need to check themselves.
