What type of pastry is best for shepherds pie? thnx

Yes I know shepherds pie is made with mashed potatoes on top!! But I've had it with pastry before and wanting to make it that way.

Personally,I would go for puff pastry,nice and light,lower in fat.

I feel sorry for all those poor hardworking shepherds. They go to all the trouble to invent a really nice potato topped pie and then you go and ruin it with you pastry. Next you'll be saying you use beef instead of lamb mince.
If you put pastry on it then it is not a shepherds pie, and I do hope you dont make apple pie with mango's.

You can still put a light layer of mashed taters and then I like using puff pastry because of how light and fluffy it is

HI-, You may use puff pastry & change the name of your dish to cottage pie, That is how the school dinner staff made it when we where at school, 1945 to 1954, & it was lovely,D.F;
