Norfolk n Good ~
Great name by the way. In my opinion, Amir is good but nowhere near what the British media and Mr. Warren are calling "The next coming of greatness." Amir's style is very similar to the way Naz fought, reckless. If you watch tape of Amir as I have over and over, you'll see that he gets by on his speed and his defense is weak, he drops his hands constantly and after every series of punches he throws he steps straight back with his head up in the air with his right hand down by his waist or chest. This is perfect for anyone with a decent left hook.

Remember the days not so long ago that the English fans were hailing "Naz" as great? He crossed the pond and beat up a very old and beaten up Kevin Kelly and the English fans told the world "We told you so, Hail Naz!" Then Naz fought a somewhat in his prime Marco Antonio and "Naz" was never heard from again.

The next to claim the throne would be Calzaghe then Hatton and anyone who watched these two guys last two fights know that they are a product of Frank Warrens mindset who will spend miilions to promote anyone who can lace up a pair of gloves (Heartbeat not required)

There are a few European fighters that are close to being "World Class" not English Class fighters, Kessler is one of them, he's about the best out there excluding the Heavyweights.

Amir is best off fighting in England and fighting whomever Frakie baby tells him to because as soon as he crosses the pond as his mates "Naz" and Hatton have, the young Khan will find out it's a great big world out there with plenty of fighters who will be more than happy to ring his bell.

Thanks for the great question.

@ Santana: I gather you're a bit of a legend of the boxing section, and have been away from here for a while. If so, then welcome back.

And also...Naz has been in the news a little bit recently. He was awarded an MBE, but was stripped of it because of his dangerous driving escapade last year, which resulted in a 15 month jail term (of which he only served about 16 weeks). The picture of him leaving the court was a sad one. He was something like 3 stone overweight.

I think Khan has the potential to be World Champ at Lightweight, but really does need to sort out the defensive side of his game. He seems to be a lot more disciplined than Naz. Meaning that he actually bothers to train, and to my recollection, hasn't had any Formula One style driving escapedes.

Sure, Amir can get away with dropping his hands against hand selected British clubfighters...but he wouldn't get away with it against someone like Popo Freitas (whom Frank Warren is supposedly lining up for Khan) or Casamayor.

What he would benefit from is training with Freddy Roach, and sparring with Pacquiao, or even Jamie Moore, pressure fighters who will test his defence, and even force him to improve.

Another suggestion to Mr. Khan would be to try and get hold of some footage of Winky, Pernell Whitaker and Willy Pep (all defensive masters), study it, and strive to implement some of that into his style. He obviously looks as though he has the speed and reflexes. Defence wise, maybe it's about time he started using them. Or more to the point, maybe it's about time Frank Warren fixed him a fight with someone who forces him to.

Well if "Frankie's" got him (good one Santana) I'm afraid he's going to turn out to be a British legend only. Hatton started fighting in the US after he broke ties with England's version of Don King. Warren likes the safe money in Europe and England. It's unfortunate in a way because if Khan stays with Warren he won't test his mettle in the US against the best fighters available. I'll steal another Santana ism. He'll end up going to the corner pub to meet Naz and talk about how great they could have been.

Solid club fighter in America, dangerous to fringe contenders, but the blogbaba wouldn't want the guy angry at him. It's not the blogbaba's fault that Oliver McCall and Hasheem Rockman whacked Lennox either.

There are two of them one is a light welterweight and one is a light heavyweight. Both are undefeated. The heavier fighter has no power and I don't think he would last with a decent fighter. The light welterweight is a decent fighter with some power...
