A church is a place for prayer and devotions and not for sleeping
although some people do nod off during a sermon.
If you want to make noise, the local disco or ball game is the right venue and well you know it.

It depends on what church you are attending. Many churches are pretty noisy.

Usually we are quiet, in the more traditional churches, because someone else has the "floor" so to speak.

That is like asking why be quiet at school or a wedding or whatever. And yes, this could be conducive for a good snooze! If of course one doesn't have much respect for those around them or the reason you are there.

Maybe they are reflecting on the words of the speaker, or at least pretending to. Church is a space for contemplation.

When the preacher is preaching, you are quiet to show respect. But during Praise and Worship, we are very loud! Shouting, clapping and praising God.
