Religion shouldn't restrict you. But your relationship with God should. Religion is the term used to describe humans attempt to figure out our Deity. But, once you have found that Deity in your life, religion is over..now its a relationship.
I've been in the same situation as you. It's tough. But remember that "confusion is not of God." (From the bible) I've had to let go of relationships because I knew they weren't right. And you know what? Afterwards, I've felt soooo good.

You are 18 and in the USA considered an adult. So, be one and make your own decision about what religious beliefs you chose to hold and act accordingly.
If what you believe in restricts you from telling someone you love them then is it a religion you want to be in? Or is it even a religion if it restricts your contact with others and forbids you to love certain people due to their beliefs and behavior.
Personally I believe religion was created to control people and judging from your question it is doing just that.
Of course be prepared if you go against the beliefs of your friends and family you may lose them along the way, but you will have gained so much more. Such as a sense of who you are, what you truly believe and want in your life. Believe me you will meet people who will support. Those who can't loved you conditionally. They just wanted you to be what they wanted you to be, not what you want. Find out what you believe and who you are and the answer will be there for you.

F-U-C-K religion go with your heart. Ask yourself this what is more important that one love or some religion?? The answer I think would be pretty obvious.

from your name, you are muslim, and I am a muslim to. I am a 14 year old boy. i have the same problem. If i were you, say anything you want and if you go to the hajj when youre older, allah will forgive you.
