When i was a kid i made these personalised soaps at school for mother's day one year. we cut out different pictures and somehow stuck them to soap bars in a way that they wouldn't fall off if the soap was used.

I was wondering if anyone knew how to do this as it would be a great activity idea for a playgroup i am now part of.

Thanks in advance

Make Photo Soap!!

Materials:

* Melt-n-Pour Soap

* Molds (any plastic thing around the house, or $1.99 molds from the craft store – both were used for this project)

* Photos on transparency

* Scissors

* Microwave

* Microwavable dish

Cost: About $8 for about 8 bars of soap

1. Get your photos: The cheapest and easiest way to get your photos on transparency is to print them out on white paper, take them down to the local copy shop and have them put it on transparency for you. One sheet runs about $1.40. The other way to do it is to buy transparency, which is very expensive, and print it on your home printer. However, inkjet ink is not waterproof, so you’d have to put a layer of self-adhesive laminate over the image so it isn’t ruined when it meets liquid. It’s up to you how you’d like to prep your photos.

2. Cut out your photos to the shape of your mold.

3. Place the desired amount of melt-n-pour soap in a microwavable dish and melt according to the instructions on your soap box.

4. Pour soap into your mold about a quarter of the way up. Let set, about 10 minutes

5. Place your photo in the mold, face down.

6. Pour melted soap into mold up to the top. You might get a few bubbles between the photo and the hard layer of soap. Just gently push on these with a butter knife to help release them. Let set, about 40 minutes.

7. Pop your soap out of your mold and go clean yourself!!

This is how I remember making them as a kid:

Purchase a bar of soap that you like
Cut out any picture that you would like to put on the soap
Use Modge Podge or even watered down white glue to stick it to the soap
It doesn't make it a usable soap in that after a few uses the picture will fall off since it's not waterproof but from what I remember, my mom just left it in the soap dish forever before it ended up getting used.

Here's another idea that I recently did with the kids in my daycare.

Purchase inexpensive baby laundry detergent (powder form), mix in water until it's the consistency of play-doh. Roll it out and use cookie cutters to make it into shapes (we used hearts for Valentine's Day). Let it dry for about three days and voila! soap.

Have fun!
