I think Corn Oil IS Considered Vegetable Oil.

Yes and no. You need to have some marketing terms translated to English.
Corn oil is from corn. Vegetable oil is from soy beans . Canola oil is from the rapeseed plant ,it's actually a marketing acronym for Canadian Oil. The marketing geniuses figured that the word "rapeseed " had too many negative connotations to be used to sell their product; ergo Canola.
The reason that I said you shouldn't use corn oil is because it has a very specific taste to it which will of course be transferred to your cake.
Vegetable oil is almost neutral in flavor so that's why it's more often called for.

Corn is a vegetable. However, vegetable oil is generally soybean oil. A little difference in taste but nothing to worry about, use either or Olive for that matter.

yes you can, I just made one a couple days ago and used corn oil, I couldn't tell the differnce. and it was a white cake.
