Well some of the pills that they were using in mental illiness, turned out to be for criec pain, so he could be giving you the ones that they found that worked on the pain in your body, more then they did the depression. Now when you see your doctor, you should really sit down and talk to him about things like this, cause he will answer you, that is his job, to keep you informed of what your taking, and how it will help. You should always know the medication that you are taking, and what it is for, and how it works, and how much you are taking, and what the side effects are.

If you don't want to wait to talk to your Dr, then the best thing to do is to call a pharmacist. They know medications just as well as a doctor does. You can also look up the medication on-line and check out the uses and side effects. For future, don't be afraid to ask questions. If your not clear about what your doctor is doing, then ask, ask, ask! Especially since Dr's makes mistakes sometimes too, and you don't want to be the victim of a mix up!
aichausa: I can't believe a Dr. would try to trick you into taking medication that you didn't need. That violates like every oath a doctor takes. You should really report that doctor. Antidepressant pills higher your serotonin levels, and sometimes your nor epinephrine and dopamine as well. If you would of took those without needed them, that doctor could of caused you permanent damage (it's called a pendulum effect; basically when taking a medication, your body becomes depend on it to be stable, and when the medication is stopped, the levels are actually lower than when the medication was actually started) Please don't let that go. This doctor could be hurting a lot of people!

I don't know how pills help with pain. I suffered so much pain when I was depressed but I overcome it with no pills. It's possible if you are strong enough, but it takes some time and you gotta make changes in your life... The best cure for my pain was understanding how brain work and what things I have to stop doing / thinking.
I suffered for 18 years, but now I'm totally okay, never feel depressed again. I'm happy 99% of the time and I don't believe any pill could do this. The strongest pill that can help is YOU.
Check how it's possible, this website shows you the way:

All I can say is... It Works!

Everyone who is truly in chronic pain gets depressed. Antidepressants do not help with pain though. Some may distract you from pain, like they distract you from depression. They do not provide pain relief however. People who are in chronic pain will get some relief from fatigue from Wellbutrin because its a mild stimulant. It does not give them pain relief, but it give them energy.
Elavil is a tricyclic antidepressant that has been used to treat pain in the past. Currently, Cymbalta is now being used to treat the pain in fibromylgia.
I personally think its all so the doctors don't have the liablity of prescribing narcotics. They are scared of losing their practise. There is no reason for a patient to be in pain these days.
Some anticonvulsants which are also mood stabilizers and are good at treating nerve pain. These drugs are Neurotin and Topamax.
I would refuse to go to a doctor that didn't treat pain.

This is something my doctor told me once: a lot of times IBS can be related to anxiety and anxiety can affect the way your intestines normally work. Some antidepressants also work for anxiety, as well as depression. So when the antidepressants start helping you feel better mentally, chances are the medicine is helping your body to relax as well, allowing your intestines to work normally - no IBS symptoms.
I was diagnosed with IBS my senior year of high school and struggled with it through college, but I went on antidepressants the summer after my junior year and my IBS seemed to get much better.

Well, some symptoms of stress, and depression can make you physically sick. I take anxiety medication, which stems from stress, and I still physically hurt. You have to make changes and sacrafices in your life, to help you to the best of your knowledge. I know that you can't help some of it, but try to find new things to do to take your mind off of things. Find a goal, and work toward it. You can have more than one goal you know. I know how you feel though. Just don't dwell on it because it will only make you feel worse. I would look up the medications, and see exactly what they are used for, and I would call different pharmacies to get more opinions so that you know that the meds are the right ones for you. It took me a few different ones to find out which was right for me. But of course, everyone isn't the same. Good luck to you!

It's a trick.
There's a doctor that tried that with me. I went in to seek medical attention for some physical pain and he prescribed me Prozac. It was the strangest thing. I guess he did this because I told him I was experiencing the blues at that point in my life, but I never asked for the damned things as I don't believe in them....never did.
I never got the presciption filled. He was a medical student and was doing rounds with the doctor who had his own practice and this med student's hands were shaking when he handed me the prescription.
It's a trick.
Don't fall for it.
