Hermeticism is a set of philosophical and religious beliefs based primarily upon the writings attributed to Hermes Trismegistus. Judeo Christian faith has been based on Hermeticism cause in the old testament and, in particular, some parts of Genesis are based on the excact words of Hermes Trismegistus book (which is far older). In this book, Hermes refers to the One God and from his words is obvious that the God he mentions doesn't have evil origins. Hermeticism is not paganism but unfortunately the Christian leaders had decided to forbid us from reading this book referering to those that follow hermeticism as heretics/gnostics . For those that don't know, Hermeticism is what Moeses was taught in the Palace of the Pharao by the Egyptian priests. My personal opinion is that the book of Hermes Trismegistus is the philosophical base of monotheism.

Hermeticism is a creation based on images taken from, or invented and attributed to, ancient Egyptian and Greek practices, art, texts, etc.
It was created in a very predominantly Christian place and time, thus Christianity is woven throughout it and defines it, even when that's via opposition.
Please leave out the Judeo bit though. 'Judeo-Christian' is just a term that Christians use when they're trying to pretend that their point of view is more universal than it is. If there is anything left of Judaism in Hermeticism, it's gone through so many changes via Christianity that it's rather pointless to call it Jewish anymore.

I'm fairly sure it's ceremonial (high) magic. Which means it has Pagan roots, but also calls on entities from the Judeo-Christian tradition.
Well, the Judeo-Christian tradition has Pagan roots.
So a background in those traditions would be helpful, but it's not exactly either one. It's kind of a neo-Pagan/Kabbalah/occult mix, and I would take it with a grain of salt, as some of it was written to confound the non-initiated.

Hermeticism is akin to Rosicrucianism and Alchemy. It comes from an Egytpian book scroll by Hermes Trismegetus. It's basically Gosticism. The famous quote from the scroll is the occult cliche' "As above, so below".
