Hi! My cat is pregnant and she will be having her kittens within a week. We set up food, water, a litter box, and a kittening box for her to have her kittens in. But, how do I know if she has accepted it to lay her kittens in it? If we go in that room too much, will she not feel safe laying them there? If that is not a good place to keep them, what would be a good place? Thanks for all the help! I know I am asking soooo many questions but this is my first time having a cat that had her own kittens! :-)

First...cats don't "nest", or "lay" kittens.

So, on to your question. If your location is dark and dimly lit, she will most likely use it as her den. She will find a dark place to have her litter of kittens because the kittens eyes are very sensitive to light, so she will choose a dark warm place for her litter. Stay out of that room, unless the mother cat is VERY comfortable with you being around.

You do realize that we have way too many cats in this world already don't you? Get her spayed soon. The cat is going to have her kittens where she want to and no matter how many times you move her somewhere she will still go back to where she wants to have them. It really interested me to read above about the cat who had the kittens on the ladys stomach because years ago I awoke one morning to find my cat had her kittens on my stomach as well. I don't think I was pregnant then but I do think I was nursing. I never thought I'd hear of that again.Pretty weird!

I think they will choose the place. I haven't had a cat that had kittens for many years. But, I remember our Siamese wouldn't use the box my mother made for her to have kittens. My mother was pregnant at the time and the cat kept trying to have her kittens on her tummy. My mother would set her down and she would jump back up again. Finally, my mother just let her have her kittens on her tummy. She seemed to have started nesting when she was ready to have her kittens.

She will pacing and looking for a hiding place to have the kittens.
You need to get her spayed for there are many kittens/cats dying at the shelter that could use a home.
Do you realize that for every 1 person born, there are 7 puppies and kittens
born? At best, 1 will find a forever home.
And don't forget, that every "Free-to-good-home" litter takes homes away
from animals already at the shelter.

STOP letting your pets; or your friends, relatives or co-workers pets
contribute to the problem.
If you love animals, it is NOT ENOUGH to merely say "My pets are fixed".
Vow to educate and enable others to fix their pets too.
Spaying just 1 female dog or cat, will prevent 6 others from ending up in a
shelter the following year.
Please be part of the solution, NOT the problem!
Thank you. ^..^

She will be pacing/searching for somewhere, they like hidden away spots, bottom of cupboard, dark corner etc... if you dont see her for a while then she has found a spot and is hiding, try not to let her know that you know otherwise she wont feel comfortable and will change spots
