A nuclear family that is NOT dysfunctional is best because children enjoy having both parents together and having that "mother, father, kids" family thing.

A mother can be a good example of what a woman is supposed to be/can do for children of both genders. A man can show children a good example of what men should be. A happily married couple can show children an example of what a good relationship should be.

If, however, a family looks "nuclear" and is really a bunch of isolated, estranged, and/or bickering individuals it creates an unhealthy environment. The kids would be better off in a peaceful home where people enjoy each other but where there is only one, good, parent.

No family is a perfect family, you make the best of what you have, try to make wise and honorable decisions. You work hard and stand by your committments, you love, protect and cherish your children.
