I'm doing an informal survey about global warming for my environmental class. Take 5 minutes (or less) to answer the following questions:

1. What do you know about global warming?
2. What do you think is the main cause of global warming?
3. Who is primarily responsible for dealing with the problem of global warming?
4. What event, person, or piece of information most shaped your current view on global warming?

It would help me if you could include your occupation, like: student, homemaker, teacher, sales associate, etc.

1. Like global cooling, it's a natural process in any healthy ecosystem. Life on earth depends on periodic warming.

2. There are theories, but the most logical is that the sun is causing a slight warming, since it's happening on Mars as well as Earth.

3. Since it's a natural process, no one is responsible for dealing with it.

4. Reading both sides of the argument from hundreds of scientists and climatologists. Also, watching all the lies in Gore's movie made me investigate it even more. I'm glad I did because now I know he has an agenda and is not using real science in his reports. It's good to find out who's lying these days.

Global warming is at the fore front because politicians found how to use a new platform to get re-elected. The world leadersuse it because they found ways to make money at it. This is a made up problem just like Global Cooling in the 1970's. Wake up people. I agree we need to be more efficient with our resources, and we should fine and jail companies who are dumping into our rivers maliciously. I want to stop the raiforest destruction, but to say that global warming is a serious man made issue and we need to destroy the American economy and bow down to the rest of the world certainly does not float my boat. Follow the money on this one and you will see that it is all for political gain and grant money for those scientists who profit off of the government if global warming stays at the front of the issues. Look deep into the Keoto (sp?) Treaty, first of all they took jets to a non-central resort location. Not very environmentally concious. THen in the parameters of the treaty they have a clause that makes it so you can buy or sell polution credits. This is all about shifting wealth and breaking down the United States. This is painfully obvious, just look at peoples agenda. The earth's mean temperature has risen .6 degrees C in the past 125 years. Greenland's icecaps have gotten colder in the past 10 years. The Scientists who do not gain anything on their posisition will tell you that the earth has a natural progression and this is what we are seeing. The UN report is made up of POLITICIANS not a good spread of scientists. THere are as many or more scientists who believe that man in NOT the reason and it is over hyped, but their voice is not heard in the LIberal Mainstream Media. WAKE UP AMERICA, IT IS TIME TO BE AMERICANS. FOR THE PEOPLE BY THE PEOPLE. STOP THE LIES

1. Enough to be doubtful of manmade causes
2. Natural cycles of solar output
3. No one is responsible for dealing with something that can't be altered
4. here are a few of the most recent things that have led to my beliefs:

Here is a profile of 10 scientists that doubt man causes global warming. It is a 10 part series from the National Post. You can look the scientists up and read their words:

http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/story...

Here is a Times UK article that provides a little science and some names so that you can read their words:

http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/story...

Here is an article from Novosti that tells us the view of a scientist that doesn't believe:

http://en.rian.ru/russia/20070115/590789...

Here is an actual journal article to go look up that ponders the question of an anthropogenic cause of global warming:

Environ Geol (2006) 50: 899–910 by L. F. Khilyuk and G. V. Chilingar

Here is another journal article:

Meteorol Atmos Phys 95, 115–121 (2007) by Lin Zhen-Shan and Sun Xian

Here is yet another:

Pure appl. geophys. 162 (2005) 1557–1586 by M.L. KHANDEKAR,1 T.S. MURTY,2 and P. CHITTIBABU

There references and facts. Some from media pieces some in peer-reviewed scientific journal articles.

1) I am generally up to date on the issues.
2) Global warming above the well known variations that are all accounted for in recent work, is attributable to an increase in greenhouse gases created by man's use, primarily of fossil fuel.
3) Its everyones problem, and we all have a responsibility to do our small part in reducing emmissions. As somone once said "we all hang together or we all hang separately."
4) I became aware of this back in the early 1980's when my father, a PhD in Molecular Biology, brought the issue to my attention.

Occupation: Biotech-research.

1) I know that its occurring, i believe we're causing it, i know its not good for the planet, and i know it could theoretically send us into an ice age

2) The release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere such as CO2 and fluorocarbons.. i know that the earth does go through natural cycles of heating and cooling, and this could be a part of it.. however if it is i believe we have done our best to speed it up, and intensify it

3) everyone who is releasing these gases into the atmosphere, primarily anyone who will not sign the kyoto agreement

4) Just random facts here and there... Bill Bryson's "a short history of nearly everything" helped explain the ramifications of it.

1.Global warming is the heating of the earth's surface due to a buildup of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and methane in the atmosphere.

2.Human induced causes - pollution of the atmosphere by burning of fossil fuels and deforestation being the main ones.

3.I think everybody in general should be.

4.One of my biology lecturers.

I am a third year biology student in college.
