I am trying to help a friend out.... He is Catholic and his soon to be wife is Jewish. We found a Rabbi for her faith easily but it is almost impossible to find a Catholic Priest who will do an interfaith marriage esp. outside of a church. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is who I'm using for my wedding in July. He's a great guy, and will probably travel to Long Island. Give him a call or drop him an email.

I'm Catholic and this was the first Priest I could find who would do it outside the Catholic Church. He also does interfaith weddings. Good luck!

Actually, it should be easy. It happens all the time- especially if the braide is not Catholic.

The hitch is- the Catholic must promise to raise the children as Catholics, and the non Catholic must acknowledge the promise made by the Catholic. This would be a sticking point for a Jewish bride.

The couple must also go through Catholic marriage preparation and get permission from the Bishop to be married outside the Church, or the marriage is considered invalid and the Catholic would not be able to receive the Sacraments.

Having said this, lovey dovey feelings aside....marriage between a a Catholic and Protestant is difficult enough, let alone a Catholic and non-Christian. There is a reason especially Catholics and Jews are told to marry within the faith...there are MANY pitfalls that will not surface until long after the wedding day...

I don't have an answer for this question, but I am extremely frustrated with the Catholic religion. I don't know very much about it, but there are so many things. When I lived with my sister and her, now, husband I would go to church with them. M sister and her husband's brother's girlfriend were taking classes because they were both going to convert when they got married. Well, my boyfriend is Catholic and he says that I can't attend church with him. I understand that looks awful. He does have children with his ex-wife and they are divorced, but their marriage has not been annulled. Maybe I answered my own question. It seems so much harder to understand when you are looking at it from my point of view. I just don't understand why the church can't recognize that he is not married anymore. She chose to break the vows of their marriage and it ended legally. I hope someday that this will change as I plan to marry him and convert if this works out for us. Anyway, well good luck with your situation.
