this is sleep paralysis
what happens is the body releases a hormone at the point of REM sleep to stop you acting out your dreams
if you awaken during it or it is released too soon then you will feel just as you described
this can also produce like waking dreams... it is called hypnagogic imagery
it is very scary ... but very common xx

This is called sleep paralysis. You experience a state between sleeping and waking up, and your brain has not fully woken up yet. So it makes you see images from your previous dream. Also, your mind may have woken up but that part of your brain which stops movement during REM sleep hasn't. No need to worry. Maybe you would like to see a doctor, though. They can prescribe you a mild medicine, I'm sure.
