I am 16 years old and live in cincinnati ohio. I was driving on the highway and recieved a speeding ticket for 81 mph in a 65 mph zone (16 mph over). The officer used a laser and told me that since i am a minor i have to appear in court for this ticket. I was wondering if there are any ways i can fight this ticket and get out of paying the 104 dollars that i owe. I got pulled over by a trooper, not a sheriff. It is my first offense and i did sign the ticket which i think states that i agree to the speeding violation. But i am aware that my chances are slim but i was just wondering if anyone out there can help me fight this ticket and get out of paying the 104 dollars. Please and Thank you very much.

Age has no bearing on whether you are responsible for your speeding ticket. You were the driver of the vehicle, which makes you responsible for the operation of the vehicle. A State Trooper's main area of patrol are the highways, so I'm not sure how that would help your argument. For going 16 mph over, I am amazed that the ticket is only $104. That is actually very cheap for going that much over the speed limit. When you go to court, they will mostly likely offer you a program where you agree to not receive another ticket for a year, and the current ticket will not affect your driving record. You will actually have to not get another ticket for a year, though. If your license is still probationary, which could be why he said you have to go court instead of just paying the fine, then you could have your license suspended or be required to take driving classes before you are allowed to drive again. The worst thing to do is to either not show up to court, or not pay the ticket. You're really young to start screwing up your driving record already. Learn your lesson, and try not to kill the rest of us.

Signing a ticket generally means that you understand what offense you are accused of and that you agree to appear in court. I'd look into taking defensive driving if this is your first offense. Not great chances of beating the ticket but defensive driving should keep it off your record.

No. You should be ashamed of yourself! You not only increased your chances of an accident but you increased your chances of of killing someone or being killed. Nobody wants to hear their son, daughter, mother, father, or friend got killed because someone was driving recklessly and lost control of the car at high speeds.

You're lack of respect for others and law is what go you that ticket and you should appear in court and pay the full $104.

You should also be ashamed of yourself for trying to get out of it. They should revoke your license too.

You are only 16? In New Jersey you are too young to represent yourself and should bring your parents with you.
I doubt you will get out of paying, but if you show up in court with a not guilty plea, the prosecutor may set you up with a plea agreement. This means you plea guilty to the judge in exchange for a lesser charge.
In my case I got my 87 in a 65 amended in a 74 in a 65. (Though you may still have to pay a good fraction of your original fine + court costs.

nope, sorry but you probably wont get out of it, the only way that you might is if you try to fight it, take it to court and happen to win. when i was 16 i got a ticket for going 17 over and i had to pay it and appear before the judge who told me i had to bay 200 dollars and go to traffic school. trust me, i learned my lesson, paying 200 dollars right after christmas (the day after exactly) isn't fun. hope you have better luck than i did.

If it's your first offense they'll probably drop it down and lessen the fine. Or postpone it and hope the officer doesn't show up to court that day. If he doesn't they can postpone it another day and if he doesn't show again they'll throw it out. Until then BURN RUBBER.
