I read a question posted recently regarding being gay, and a christian. Many christians stated that you cannot be gay and a christian also, that you'll be convicted and wish to turn away from your sin.

So does this mean that converting to christianity will prevent you from sinning?

People who are considered christians still sin. Whether its lying, envy, greed, or lust ... christians still commit sins every single day. If this theory really held up, wouldn't everyone who converted to christianity stop sinning?

So those of you who claim to be christians, and still sin, does this mean that you aren't truly a christian?

Christians say that homosexuality is a lifestyle of sin. What is the difference between that and the lifestyles of christians who steal, are envious, and have unmarried heterosexual intercourse? All of these things are equated to homosexuality in 1 Cor. 6:9-11.

Please explain.

Part two of this question -- if all the people I described aren't really christian, why don't we see bumper stickers about how envy is a sin? Why don't we see protestors carrying around signs that say, "We Hate Thieves"? Why the focus on homosexuality?

karen says: "A true Christian will NOT steal, covet, have affairs, lie, cheat, etc."

Does this mean that a person capable of these things is NOT a true christian? When you see a nice car advertised on television or driving down the road, if you were to think, "I really wish that I had that car", does this mean that you aren't a true christian? If, in a moment of annoyance, you tell your nagging mother-in-law that you're getting another call just to get off of the phone, does that mean you aren't a true christian?

Oh, and what happened to being saved "by grace, through faith"? And not getting into heaven through your works? If your actions can't get you into heaven, why can they keep you out?

Christians can be -- and are -- all kinds of sinners. You can be Christian and homosexual. And even then, there's two ways this works.

1. Christians who believe that homosexuality is *not* a sin. The reasoning behind this is fairly solid, though obviously, not all Christians accept the idea. So if you are homosexual and a Christian, you can live your "homosexual lifestyle" with the conviction that homosexuality is not a sin, and spend your time sinning in other ways.

2. Christians who believe that homosexuality *is* a sin. So if a homosexual person feels those sinful urges, they are recognized as sinful urges... and they are temptations which must be resisted. Temptation itself is not a sin, but a "homosexual lifestyle" that is not able to repent of homosexual behavior would be considered sinful, just like a thieving, lying, murdering, envying Christian would also be living in sin.

We all live in sin, and I doubt we could ever repent of every sin we've ever committed. So there is really no reason to consider someone else's sinful life as any worse than our own. And as you say, the Bible points out that one transgression against God's law is a transgression against *all* of God's law. So I guess technically, we are all guilty of homosexuality. Sortof. :)

Very good question. I'll try my best to answer this. I am a Christian who truly believes that Christianity is not just a religion, it's a way of life.
The Bible clearly condemns homosexuality (I'm yet to hear what scriptures gay priests use to justify their position). But as you pointed out, homosexuality is condemned in the same place as stealing, envy, fornication etc. All who practice these things are NOT Christians (No matter how much time they set aside for church, or how much they donate to their church or charity. God says "Obedience is better than sacrifice" -1 Sam 15:22)
The problem nowadays is that people feel that as long as you are a 'good person', it doesn't matter how you behave. That is so not true and exactly what Satan the Devil wants us to believe. We are all accountable before God, and what we do shows what we really are on the inside.
It's also true that we all sin, even without knowing it. That's why we have to repent, and we can do this because Jehovah gave us the provision of his Son Jesus' ransom sacrifice, and that way our sins are forgiven. But that does not give us license to make a practice of sin- read the advice to Christian congregations at 1 Corinthians 5:9-13; we are not to mix in company with practicers of wickedness, if they are members of the congregation, they should be "put out" before they contaminate the rest.
So my advice to you, dear friend- get out of a religion that tolerates practicers of the sins mentioned at 1 Cor 6:9-11 and find one that follows the advice of 1 Cor 5:9-13. If you still need help, email me.

I am a sinner. I am a Christian. Jesus came to save the sinners. I believe that and embrace that and am grateful. I still sin because I am in this world.
Homosexuality is just one of many sins. I do not candone homosexuality. I do not justify it. I do not justify any of the thousands of sins I commit either. To say that one is living a sinful lifestyle, I would take that to mean that they are justifying the sin they are living in. Defending it. We sin every day all the time, that doesn't make it okay. I am constantly falling in front of God, ashamed at how I've acted. I am constantly having to confess to friends and family etc. what stupid things I've done and how I've behaved.
Sexual sin is destructive. Not worse then all the others, just more obvious, I guess. I dunno. I've never had a problem with sexual sin. That doesn't mean I'm better. My sin weakness is in other areas of my life. I need God's constant grace just as much as the next person.

There is a Confusion of Terms in the Body of Christ.

Child of GOD: anybody (gays too) can and Should get their Spirits Recreated.
Once you ask Jesus to Save You (Seriously asking, no playing games here)---your Spirit gets Recreated and your Own your Way to Heaven.
Yes, you can Still sin till you get their.
Sinning after your Saved brings down Curses on you (more so than when you weren't Saved) and can Cut your life Short on this Earth.
Also, you'll Lose Rewards----BUT you will Make Heaven your Home.
The only way to Lose that Recreated Spirit (get it Messed-Up again, Big Time!) is to commit the Unpardonable Sin.
The Unpardonabel Sin is NOT Lying, Stealing, Forication, Homosexuality, Murder, Drunkeness, Drugs etc.

It is a Very High Brand of Sin, FEW Commit it and it is Hard to Commit, Probably 90 Percent of the Children of GOD couldn't Commit it if they Had to.

Now the Definition of a Christian.
A Christian, by Bible Standards, is a Spirit Filled Child of GOD being Led Moment by Momemt by the Holy Spirit.
It is an Exiciting "HIGH" Life to Live and few make it, or Stay their Very Long.
Devil shoots them down.
It is the Highest High that you will Ever Encounter and when you come down, you WILL ALWAYS want to go BACK Up their.
It far out weighs sex, power, money, drugs or alcohol.
It is being HIGH on the MOST HIGH---basically how you will be when you get Home to Heaven.

When you are in this State (Christian--Christ Like), you will Walk and Talk just like Jesus did in the New Testament.
Anything other than Being High (Walking in Holiness) is a Fake Christian (Christ Like), BUT I would Rather have them Trying to be Chirst-Like (Artifically) than Acting like Gangsters!
Ditto..............

The way I see it...it's all about justifying. I believe there are Christians who are gay. They are those who do understand that homosexuality is wrong, as described in the Bible, yet they are weak and can not help themselves. They try, and they want to live right, but they mess up. Stumbling along, they are trying to follow after Jesus, yet homosexuality is tripping them up. But they press on and do not make excuses for their sin.

Conversely, we have the one who reads in the Bible that homosexuality is wrong, decides they know better than the Bible and that homosexuality is okay, and wants to claim the rewards of the salvation that Jesus offers, while holding on to the pleasures they crave. They want what they consider the best of both worlds, even when the two worlds are at odds. In the end, they decide that their pleasure is more important to them than what God has to say, and thus they justify their sin with excuses like "God is love, and would want me to love someone, even if they are the same gender". Sure, we are to love those of the same gender, but we are not to "make love" to them.

I think a person can be homosexual and be a Christian. The only thing is (and I know I'm going to get thumbs-down for this from someone who feels I'm being a bigot) they can't CONTINUE to engage in homosexuality.
Christians are supposed to try their hardest not to sin. I don't say I'm a "lying Christian", I'm simply a Christian. The things I used to do are, for the most part, in my past. Sometimes I fail, yes, that's human.
But I don't feel that a person can be an unrepentant active homosexual while claiming to be a Christian. This is Biblical, not from my own mind. I also don't feel that a person can be an unrepentant active thief or liar and be a Christian. A Christian can't be an unrepentant murderer either. Or a drunk. Or a drug addict. Or promiscuous. Or ANYTHING that the Bible mentions is a sin.
I hold myself to the same standard. If this sounds judgemental, I apologize, but again, it is scriptural.

All people fall short of the Glory of God by sin. I am a sinner. I am also a Christian.

Sin is anything that is contrary to the law or will of God. For example: if you lie, you have sinned. Why? Because God has said not to lie (Exodus 20:16). If you do what God has forbidden, then you have sinned. In addition, if you do not do what God has commanded, you sin (James 4:17). Either way, the result is eternal separation from God (Isaiah 59:2). Sin is lawlessness (1 John 1:3) and unrighteousness (1 John 5:17). Sin leads to bondage (Rom. 6:14-20) and death (Rom. 6:23).

Paul, in the book of Romans, discusses sin. He shows that everyone, both Jew and Greek, is under sin (Rom. 3:9). He shows that sin is not simply something that is done, but a condition of the heart (Rom. 3:10-12). In Ephesians Paul says that we are "by nature children of wrath" (Eph. 2:3). Yet, "while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly" (Rom. 5:6).

When anyone sins, and we all have (Rom. 3:23; 6:23), he deserves eternal separation from God (Isaiah 59:2). Yet, because of His love and mercy, God became a man (John 1:1,14 ) and bore the sins of the world in His body on the cross (1 Pet. 2:24; 1 John 2:2). We are forgiven when we realize that there is nothing we can do to earn the favor of God and we put our trust in what Jesus did for us on the cross (Eph. 2:8-9; 1 Cor. 15:1-4). Only God saves. The only thing we bring to the cross is our sin.

1 cor;6:9-11
11 specially said, Yet some of you were.(previous script; explain various categories of persons). But you have been washed clean, but you have been sanctified, but you have been declared righteous in the name of Lord Jesus Christ and with the spirit of our God.
When you came to this point Christians are to conscious of not to sin deliberately. Any thing like lying envy, greed, or lust..we are conscious of.True because we are imperfect we could fall in to sin.But there is a big different in will full sin and imperfection.

I don't judge people, it is not MY job.

In the book of Romans, it says, "All have sinned and come short of the glory of God".... no one is without sin... We are born in to sin..

As a Christian, I have trials and tribulations, persecution every day but God takes care of them and gives me strength..

Now..... Christians do sin, as you stated, as non Christians do.
Thoughts we shouldnt have is a sin, not helping someone is sin, cursing is a sin, etc etc....
A true Christian will NOT steal, covet, have affairs, lie, cheat, etc. God forgives our sins when we ask Him to and He tells us to not sin against Him. What a forgiving God we have...
He knows we are mere humans and we have our downfalls but He forgives that.
To answer your question, "So does this mean converting to christianity will prevent you from sinning?" The answer is no...
I personally live by the Ten Commandments which covers all you have listed.
God forgives our sins daily and I can tell you this, when I have sinned, my heart is so heavy, God tells me what I did wrong... I always feel so bad about it but He then forgives me for it....

I do not judge homosexuals, they are responsible for their own choices, as I am for mine...

Your thinking this is good. It's the only way to grow. The Holy Spirit should convict the christian of his lawlessness. They should ask forgiveness and try to stop the sin.To me sins are weighed differently. J-walking for example compared to assault and battery. Different punishments for different crimes. My self can understand people of the same gender loving one another deeply. But, the act of sex with one another is against the laws of even nature itself. What purpose does it have. It's more like a Young dog trying to hump everything. Crap on a stick. whatever.I think its the spirit of the evil one. He's a fag!
