I have been freezing onions for years. The process is very simple and just how most people have answered already, just chop, ziploc, and throw in the freezer. One thing I will add though is that frozen onions are only good for cooking with and not to use fresh because they get a little soggy when they thaw out. Good luck!

Chop or dice the onions into the size pieces you want. Then freeze them in a plastic ziplock bag or a container with a tight fitting lid. When you're ready to add them to whatever you're cooking, you can just spoon or shake out the amount you need.

I would dice them and spread them out on a cookie sheet first and put them in the freezer for a few hours. Transfer them to individual zip top bags in half-cup servings. This way they won't clump together. Use in soups, stews an sauces.

Just chop them up and stick in a zipper bag. You can use small bags, making them in 1 or 2 cup portions, so they're pre-measured for recipes.
