Does anyone think it is possible Joseph was impotent? Mary got knocked up and knew old Joe couldn't be da baby daddy so she claimed God impregnated her. Joseph being the idiot he was believed her. The bible claims she was a virgin and yet married to Joseph. He must have been impotent if he never tapped that.

The most logical explanation for the 'Son of God' yet. I reckon she was scared of being stoned to death for having sex outside marriage and so she claimed it was a miracle from God.
And then she had to keep up the lie with her son, although I don't know if she would have let him in on it or fooled him too...
I reckon she probably told him about her lie and then he came up with lots of ways to fool people into thinking he performed miracles.

Pardon me, but Joseph wasn't impotent. The Bible says Joseph and Mary got engaged, Mary became pregnant by the Holy Spirit, and then Joseph married her. According to Luke, they weren't official married yet when Mary gave birth. The Book of Matthew says Joseph didn't have sexual union with Mary until AFTER she gave birth to Jesus. At least three of the gospels mention Jesus' brothers, and at least two gospels give Jesus' brothers' names and mention his sisters. Some epistles call the epistle writer James "the brother of the Lord". I think we can safely assume that Jesus' brothers and sisters have Joseph for their father.

If you study the facts as shown in further Bible study, you will know that Joseph was not impotent. After Mary supposedly had Jesus, she and Joseph went on to have several more children.

BTW, virgin, in the time period this story was supposed to have taken place, only meant an unmarried woman.

It's really strange that you have figured all of that out. You must believe at least a twisted version of the story. Please read Isaiah 53, which is about Jesus and was written about 600 years before
Jesus was born. There are many other OT scriptures about Him.

The Bible says that they were espoused (engaged). Joseph did not "know" Mary yet! Study the Hebrew traditions of the culture. That will help you to understand !! Understanding is greater than wisdom and knowledge!

Idiot old husband, young wife fooling around with somebody else... NO, stuff like that is unheard of, and probably never happened anywhere. So, I'll stick to the story about magical invisible man in the sky.

How do the gospel writers know anyway? They where not even there.... The books must of been written 60 years after Jesus was born... They must have a long memory. They where not even at the birth, etc.

Works for me. Consider further that if Jesus was white (as widely depicted by christians) then she must have got knocked up by some white honky passing through town. That would sure have given her some 'splainin' to do. Old Joe could not have had a reputation as a quick thinker.

Another, more plausible explanation is that Mary was raped, and afraid to tell Joseph. So, she created a story about God making her pregnant. The lie worked so well, that she had to tell her son that his father was God. If I was told that convincingly enough, it would probably affect my behavior. I think Jesus was sincerely deluded into believing that he was the son of God by his mother's lie.

I like you're thoery, it's equally as credible as the bible version. Actually, I read somewhere that Mary was only about 12-14 when she gave birth. Who knows...
