The Brussels sprout (Brassica oleracea Gemmifera Group) is a cultivar group of Wild Cabbage cultivated for its small (typically 2.5-4 cm diameter) leafy green heads, which resemble miniature cabbages. The name stems from the original place of cultivation, not because of the vegetable's popularity in Brussels.

They look completely adorable--they're like these teeny-weeny little heads of cabbage on a stalk.

But I've heard they're gross. Which is entirely possible--many people hate cruciferous vegetables (like cabbage, broccoli, and cauliflower.)

Personally, I love cruciferous vegetables, but I've never tried Brussels sprouts. I would assume they're like cabbage ramped up several notches. Very intense cabbage-y flavor.

Mmmmmm, funky cabbage!

They are from the brassica family, these include broccoli, cabbage, kale. Brassica oleracea. Many types to choose from if you are going to grow them.

They are really delicious, depending how you cook them. We like ours with lemon butter and garlic.

They are little "cabbages" which grown on a stalk. Known for the beta carotene, vitamine C and fiber. After exposure to frost they become sweet. You probably notice them in the market around Thanks Giving and the December holidays.

They look like tiny cabbages. Kinda bland but taste very yummy if cooked with bacon and garlic. See Rachel Ray's recipe on Foodtv.com Yum-o!
